For longer Pokémon GO sessions, dim the display, use the game’s Battery Saver when you can carry your foldable with its screen facing down, and keep the phone cool. Keep location services enabled during active play. The game’s Battery Saver and your phone’s power-saving mode do different things, and phone-level modes can affect background tracking.
Choose the right Battery Saver
Pokémon GO has its own Battery Saver setting, separate from the battery-saving mode in Android or your phone’s software. The in-game option turns off the display when you point the device downward; the game continues tracking distance as if the screen were on. Nearby Pokémon can still trigger vibration alerts if Vibration is enabled. It is useful when you are walking with the phone in a pocket or bag in a suitable orientation, but less useful if you need to watch the screen continuously. Niantic cautions that phone-level battery modes can sometimes affect Adventure Sync distance tracking, whereas the game’s Battery Saver does not. If Adventure Sync matters to you, check that tracking still works after changing a phone-level mode.
Dim the display and use the smaller screen when practical
The lit display is one of the most accessible settings to adjust. Lower brightness to the lowest level that remains readable in the conditions where you are playing. Android also recommends shortening the screen timeout so the display turns off sooner when you are not using it. Android’s battery guidance covers these general steps.

On a foldable, use the cover display instead of the larger inner display when it is comfortable for what you are doing. This is a practical application of general display-saving advice, not a measured result for every foldable or for Pokémon GO specifically. No official test establishes a particular percentage of battery saved or extra play time.
Keep location enabled; treat phone power-saving modes cautiously
Pokémon GO requires GPS and Location Services, so do not turn off location during active play to conserve power. Pokémon Support lists GPS and Location Services among the requirements.

Phone-level power saving may still help, but its effects differ by device. For example, Samsung says Galaxy power saving restricts background Wi-Fi and mobile data and may limit location services; menu names and availability vary by model and software. Samsung’s Galaxy guidance describes those restrictions. If you try a power-saving mode, check live play and Adventure Sync rather than assuming every feature behaves normally.
Prevent heat from adding to battery drain
A phone can drain faster when it gets hot, even when it is not in use, and sustained heat can harm the battery. Google’s Android battery guidance recommends avoiding conditions that overheat the device. While playing outdoors, move the phone out of direct sun; if it becomes hot, pause and let it cool. There is no established Pokémon GO temperature threshold that applies to all foldables.

Use a portable battery pack for long sessions away from an outlet
A portable charger does not reduce the phone’s power consumption; it supplies additional energy when you cannot reach an outlet. Samsung notes that rechargeable battery packs are useful away from an outlet, including for battery-hungry activities such as gaming. Samsung’s portable charger guidance and its Galaxy Z accessories information provide general context, but neither identifies the right pack for an unspecified foldable.
Before buying or packing one, check your exact phone model’s port and charging support, along with the pack’s output and the cable you need. A wired pack is often more convenient to connect while carrying a phone; wireless charging avoids a cable but depends on the phone and pack supporting it and may be awkward while playing. The available guidance does not establish comparative charging speeds for foldables. Charging during play can replenish the battery more slowly because the game keeps using power.

Does Pokémon GO Plus + save phone battery?
Do not count on Pokémon GO Plus + as a phone battery-saving feature. Pokémon Support documents the accessory and its USB-C charging, but its FAQ says it has no battery saver mode; the cited information does not establish that using it reduces the phone’s battery use.
