The headline-grabbing numbers are still leak-based estimates: one puts component costs near $960, while another projects roughly 3.1 times the PS5’s ray-tracing frame rates. Neither figure is a confirmed retail price or a measured PS6 result.
What is confirmed about the PS6?
The reviewed reporting describes Sony as planning next-generation PlayStation hardware, but it does not establish that Sony has formally announced a console named PS6. The name, final hardware specifications, consumer price, and launch timing remain unconfirmed in these reports. iTechGuides’ summary of what Sony has revealed distinguishes reported planning from details that have not been announced.
What does the $960 PS6 price rumor mean?
VideoCardz reported in 2026 that hardware leaker KeplerL2 raised an estimated PS6 bill of materials by $200, to around $960. A bill of materials is an estimate of component costs; it is not a retail price set by Sony. The report cautions that the estimate does not confirm a console price near $1,000. Read VideoCardz’s report.
That distinction matters because a component-cost estimate alone cannot determine what consumers would pay. The available reporting does not establish a final PS6 configuration, Sony’s pricing strategy, or the retail price.

Where did the $350–$1,000 range come from?
Tom’s Guide reported in 2026 on a Moore’s Law is Dead estimate spanning $350 to $1,000 for a rumored lineup of three devices. It is a speculative scenario based on assumptions about component costs and tariffs, not announced Sony pricing for one PS6 console. The range should not be read as a confirmed price band or as a like-for-like alternative to the $960 component-cost estimate. See Tom’s Guide’s account of the estimate.
How much faster might PS6 be than PS5?
GamesRadar+ reported that leaker Kepler L2 estimated around 3.1 times the PS5’s ray-tracing frame rates, extrapolating from an AMD estimate and a game-rendering comparison. This is not a Sony specification or a test of PS6 hardware. It also does not establish a particular resolution, frame rate, or improvement across all games; actual results would depend on the hardware and the game. Read GamesRadar+’s report.

How to read the current PS6 claims
| Claim | What it describes | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Around $960 | KeplerL2’s reported bill-of-materials estimate, as covered by VideoCardz in 2026 | Sony’s retail price or a confirmed price near $1,000 |
| $350–$1,000 | Moore’s Law is Dead’s speculative estimate for a rumored three-device lineup, as covered by Tom’s Guide in 2026; it uses component-cost and tariff assumptions | Announced pricing for a single PS6 console |
| Around 3.1 times PS5 ray-tracing frame rates | Kepler L2’s reported extrapolation, as covered by GamesRadar+ in 2026 | Measured PS6 game performance or a universal performance uplift |
What can a buyer conclude?
There is no confirmed PS6 price or performance figure in the reports reviewed here. The $960 number is a component-cost estimate, the wider price span is a leaker’s multi-device scenario, and the ray-tracing multiplier is an extrapolation. Treat all three as rumors, not a basis for assuming what Sony will sell or how games will run.
