That confirms the feature for the 9800X3D—not automatically for every Ryzen 9000X3D model—and does not establish whether a tuned chip beats Intel’s Arrow Lake processors.
Which Ryzen 9000X3D processor is confirmed to support full overclocking?
AMD’s statement applies specifically to the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. AMD described it as the first 3D V-Cache-enabled processor to allow full overclocking. The statement settles the earlier rumor-era question for this model, but it is not blanket confirmation for every processor in the Ryzen 9000X3D family.

AMD announced that the 9800X3D would be available starting November 7, 2024; that is the launch date, not a statement about current stock or price. In 2026, AMD also announced the Ryzen 7 9850X3D. The CES 2026 announcement says the 9850X3D has a 400MHz higher boost clock than the 9800X3D, but does not establish that it shares the 9800X3D’s full overclocking controls. Check model-specific documentation rather than assuming the same capabilities.
What does “full overclocking” mean here?
AMD’s confirmation establishes that the 9800X3D permits full CPU overclocking. Its product page also lists AMD Ryzen Master support and AMD EXPO memory overclocking technology. These are related tuning features, but they are not interchangeable: EXPO concerns memory configuration, while CPU overclocking changes processor operation.

#1 Best Overall
- The world’s fastest gaming processor, built on AMD ‘Zen5’ technology and Next Gen 3D V-Cache.
- 8 cores and 16 threads, delivering +~16% IPC uplift and great power efficiency
- 96MB L3 cache with better thermal performance vs. previous gen and allowing higher clock speeds, up to 5.2GHz
- Drop-in ready for proven Socket AM5 infrastructure
- Cooler not included
Feature support is not a promise of a particular speed increase, gaming improvement, or stable result on every system. Those outcomes depend on the processor, motherboard, firmware, memory, cooling, and settings. The available AMD statements confirm capability, not a specific performance gain.
Does this prove the 9800X3D can challenge Intel Arrow Lake?
No. Confirmation that a processor can be overclocked is not evidence that overclocking makes it faster than a competing CPU. The sources establish no controlled, like-for-like benchmark result for an overclocked Ryzen 9000X3D processor versus Intel Arrow Lake, so they do not support a performance ranking or percentage claim.

- Architecture: Zen 5; Former Codename: Granite Ridge AM5
A useful comparison would test the same games and settings and disclose the GPU, memory, firmware, cooling, and power limits. It should distinguish stock from manually tuned results and gaming from productivity workloads, while also accounting for thermals, power use, platform and motherboard cost, and memory configuration. Until comparable testing is available, the Arrow Lake question remains open.

AMD warns that overclocking or undervolting AMD processors or memory beyond AMD’s published specifications may void applicable warranty coverage. The warning applies even when AMD hardware or software makes a tuning feature available; feature support does not mean that operation outside published specifications is covered. Review the warranty terms in AMD’s 9800X3D announcement before changing settings.
