On your first visit, the Distant Villagers encourage you to sit on a bench; doing so triggers a web trap that drops the Knight into a deeper labyrinth.
How do you get into Beast’s Den?
Beast’s Den is in Deepnest. Its entrance room is deliberately made to look like a safe place to rest: the Distant Villagers speak soothingly and invite the Knight to sit on the bench. The invitation is a trap. Sitting down ensnares the Knight in webs and carries them into the den’s labyrinth. The Hollow Knight Wiki’s Beast’s Den page describes this entry sequence.
Can you skip the bench trap?
The wiki describes a way to bypass the fake bench: use Crystal Heart from the top of the rightmost wall, interrupt the movement, then use Monarch Wings to reach the resting place. This route requires both abilities; it is a wiki-reported movement option, not a guarantee that every player will find the maneuver straightforward.
What happens if you sit on the bench?
The bench triggers the web trap rather than providing a normal rest. The Knight is caught and taken deeper into Beast’s Den, where the route continues through a labyrinth. The villagers’ reassuring welcome is part of the setup, so do not treat the bench as a safe checkpoint on first entry.

Where is Herrah the Beast?
Herrah is physically located in Beast’s Den. She is one of the Dreamers, the queen of Deepnest’s Spider Tribe, and Hornet’s mother, according to the Hollow Knight Wiki’s Herrah the Beast page. Her location makes the den a significant stop in the Dreamer storyline.
What items are in Beast’s Den?
The area’s listed finds are one Grub, one Hallownest Seal, six Geo Deposits, and one Rancid Egg. These are totals for the area; they do not mean every item lies on the same route or is reachable before the trap sequence. The counts are listed on the Beast’s Den area page.

What is the shrine in western Beast’s Den?
A shrine in the western part of the den contains an unidentified being. Casting a Spell on it causes a seal to appear, but the being’s identity and the shrine’s purpose are not established by the Hollow Knight Wiki’s Beast’s Den Shrine page. Treat explanations beyond those observed effects as speculation.

Cloth describes the area’s hazards in in-game dialogue: “This whole area swarms with deadly critters, biting, burning, scratching types. I’d thought to test my strength against them. Now that bravado has left me and all I feel is tired and sore.” The line conveys her reaction to Deepnest’s hostile creatures; it is character dialogue, not a real-world assessment.
