Choose File > Save As for a local copy, or File > Publish to Roblox As to upload a copy to Roblox. For someone else’s experience, the creator must have enabled copying, and you should get their permission before publishing their work.
Copy your own Roblox experience
- Sign in to Roblox Studio and open My Experience.
- Select the experience and click Edit to open it in Studio. Roblox’s instructions for copying an experience cover this route.
- Choose the kind of copy you need:
- Local file: select File > Save As to save a copy on your computer.
- Roblox experience: select File > Publish to Roblox As to publish a copy as a new or existing experience.
Copy another creator’s experience
You can use the documented Edit-in-Studio workflow only when the creator has enabled copying. On the experience’s About tab, look for the notice “This experience’s source can be copied.” If it appears, open the experience details page, select the three-dot menu, then choose Edit to open it in Studio. From there, use File > Save As for a local copy or File > Publish to Roblox As to upload one. See Roblox Support’s copying instructions.
Being able to open an editable copy is not the same as having permission to publish the creator’s work as your own. Roblox Support advises asking the creator before publishing a copy. Roblox’s Terms of Use say that, without express written permission or a written license from the content creator, you must not copy or modify someone else’s content or experience and publish it as your own.
Move your own experience to another account
- Open your experience in Studio and choose File > Save As to save it locally.
- Sign out and log in to the destination account.
- Open the saved file in Studio and choose File > Publish to Roblox As to publish the copy from that account. Roblox’s copying instructions describe this account-to-account workflow.
Let other people copy your place
If you own the experience and want others to be able to edit a copy, enable the place permission in Creator Dashboard:

- Open Creator Dashboard > Configure > Places.
- Select the start place, then open Permissions.
- Enable Allow users to download a copy of this Place and click Save Changes.
Roblox says users can then use the experience’s main-page three-dot menu and choose Edit in Studio. The permission is set for the start place. Roblox explains the default access rules and setting in its place permissions documentation: “By default, all private and public games are locked so that you or your group are the only creators who have permission to edit its place files.”
Save formats, size limit, and safety checks
Studio can export local place files using Save to File or Download a Copy. Roblox documents two formats: binary .rbxl, which is compact and not human-readable, and XML-based .rbxlx, which is larger. Roblox Corporation’s Creator Hub states a 100 MB (104,857,600 bytes) supported place-size limit; saving or publishing may fail if the place exceeds it. Before editing an unfamiliar copy, inspect its models and scripts. Roblox warns that obfuscated or unclear text in a model or attached script may indicate a malicious backdoor. Do not run code you do not understand.
