Its appeal is straightforward: it may let you carry less than a separate charger and dock when travelling. It is not a fit for Switch Lite TV play, and compatibility with Nintendo Switch 2 is not confirmed by the sources available here. Whether it is a must-have depends on your console and how often you play on different screens.
What the original Covert Dock does
Genki designed the Covert Dock to combine a power adapter and a dock function in one compact accessory. The setup described in its original Kickstarter campaign and user manual is to connect a compatible Switch to the dock, plug it into an outlet, and run HDMI to a TV. The manual also describes a USB port for supported accessories, including wired controllers and Ethernet adapters.
The practical benefit is fewer separate pieces to pack for a compatible console and display. That does not establish how much space it saves in a particular bag or how it performs in every setup; those depend on the unit, cables, outlet and display.
Compatibility: Switch, Switch Lite and Switch 2
| Console | What the available evidence establishes |
|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch | Genki’s original campaign and manual describe TV connection through the Covert Dock. The cited materials do not provide independent hands-on performance results. |
| Nintendo Switch OLED Model | The collected sources do not state model-specific compatibility details. |
| Nintendo Switch Lite | Genki says the Covert Dock cannot stream gameplay to a TV because Switch Lite lacks DisplayPort capabilities. It is not a solution for Lite owners seeking TV output. |
| Nintendo Switch 2 | Compatibility of the original Genki Covert Dock is not established by the available sources. Nintendo’s guidance about its own dock and AC adapter does not directly test or identify this separate Genki product. |
Genki’s FAQ gives the clearest Lite limitation: “Since the Switch Lite does not have displayport capabilities the Covert Dock cannot stream gameplay to a TV.” See Genki’s Covert Dock FAQ.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
For Switch 2, Nintendo states that “The Nintendo Switch dock is not compatible with Nintendo Switch 2” and that the original Switch AC adapter cannot provide Switch 2 TV mode because its power output differs. Those statements concern Nintendo hardware, not the original Covert Dock, so they do not prove whether the Genki product works or fails with Switch 2. See Nintendo’s Switch and Switch 2 compatibility guidance.
Can you use it only as a charger?
The Covert Dock is described as a power adapter as well as a TV dock, so its intended use is not limited to TV play. You can connect a compatible Switch and charge it without connecting HDMI when you want to play handheld. The available documentation does not provide independent measurements of charging speed or charging behavior during sustained gameplay.

Travel power and setup details
Genki’s FAQ states that the original Covert Dock supports 100–240V input at 50Hz or 60Hz. This is a voltage and frequency range, not a guarantee that the unit’s plug fits every country’s outlets. Check the exact region kit and plug arrangement before travelling; the cited sources do not establish universal plug compatibility.
- For TV play, the manual’s setup uses the Switch, Covert Dock, a power outlet and an HDMI connection to the display.
- The manual describes a USB accessory port for supported devices, such as wired controllers and Ethernet adapters.
- Check outlet access and cable routing at the destination; the sources do not report testing of cable strain or fit across travel situations.
What is—and is not—known about performance
The collected documentation explains intended use and certain compatibility limits, but it does not provide hands-on test results for the original Covert Dock’s heat, charging under sustained play, image quality, long-term reliability or real-world size comparison. Those are important factors in judging a travel accessory, so treat them as unanswered rather than assuming performance from the product’s compact design or campaign popularity.

How it compares with Genki Covert Dock 3
Genki now presents Covert Dock 3 as a separate 65W travel dock for Switch 2 and handheld gaming. That successor should not be confused with the original Covert Dock. Genki’s current product information describes the newer model, while a Tom’s Guide hands-on report dated April 6, 2026 describes using Covert Dock 3 with Switch 2 and reports 4K/60Hz with HDR in the reviewer’s setup. That result applies to the newer device and that setup, not the original dock or every TV. See Genki’s Covert Dock 3 product page and Tom’s Guide’s Covert Dock 3 report.

Who should consider the original Covert Dock?
For owners of a compatible original Switch who regularly move between handheld play and TVs, the Covert Dock’s combined adapter-and-dock design addresses a real packing problem. It is less compelling if you rarely use a TV, own a Switch Lite and want TV output, or need confirmed Switch 2 compatibility. Before buying, verify that the exact listing is for the original model, check the region-specific plug arrangement, and make sure the USB and HDMI connections suit your setup. Current price, availability, warranty and exact box contents are not established by the cited sources.
