The feature applies only to participating titles and qualifying digital purchases; it does not make every Xbox game available on PC. Check the Play Anywhere badge on the exact game listing before relying on it.
What Xbox Play Anywhere includes
Xbox says a qualifying digital game is playable on an Xbox console, a Windows 10/11 PC, and supported gaming handhelds at no additional cost. Eligible saves, game progress, add-ons, and achievements are available across supported devices. Your achievements and Gamerscore remain one shared set rather than being awarded again when you switch platforms. Xbox Play Anywhere
This is a game-by-game entitlement, not a general promise that an Xbox purchase unlocks its PC version. The Xbox Play Anywhere page and participating-games list identify supported titles; check the exact listing and edition you intend to play.
Which purchases qualify?
- Digital purchases: Xbox describes Play Anywhere as applying to eligible digital games bought through the Xbox Store or Windows Store, as well as qualifying digital codes from participating retailers.
- Disc copies: Owning an Xbox disc does not establish the Play Anywhere PC entitlement. The program’s digital-purchase rule is the relevant one for playing on PC.
- The right account: Sign in on PC with the Xbox/Microsoft account associated with the qualifying purchase. The game should appear in that account’s library for download.
Xbox’s current eligibility details are on its Play Anywhere page. If the badge is absent or the PC version does not appear in your library, the general rule alone cannot confirm that your particular copy qualifies.

How to install and play it on a Windows PC
- Open the game’s current Xbox Store or Windows Store listing and confirm it has the Xbox Play Anywhere badge.
- On the PC, install or open the Xbox app and sign in with the account that owns the game.
- Find the title in your library and choose the install option if it is available.
- Check the game’s own PC system requirements, then install and launch it. The Xbox app’s minimum operating-system requirement does not guarantee that every PC can run every game.
Xbox lists Windows 10/11, version 22H2 or higher, as the requirement for the Xbox PC app. A controller is optional: use an Xbox or other compatible PC gaming accessory if you prefer, or keyboard and mouse when the game supports them.
Can the game run on Xbox and PC at the same time?
No. Xbox says you can be signed into the same Play Anywhere game on one Xbox console or one Windows 10/11 PC or supported handheld at a time. Play Anywhere lets you move between supported devices; it is not a license for simultaneous play of the same game on multiple devices.

What if the game is not in your PC library?
- Confirm that the listing for the specific game and edition carries the Play Anywhere badge.
- Check that you are signed into the account that made the qualifying digital purchase or redeemed its code.
- Look at the listing’s current availability and the game’s PC requirements. The general Play Anywhere rule cannot confirm regional availability, account ownership, or compatibility for an unspecified title and PC.
If the game does not qualify, Xbox Game Pass or cloud gaming may provide another way to access some PC games, but those are separate routes with their own subscription, catalog, and game-support terms. Being available through a subscription is not the same as owning a Play Anywhere purchase. Xbox notes that some cloud-playable games require a Game Pass subscription on its Xbox on PC page.
