Hearth and Hamlet lists 8 GB of RAM and a GTX 650 2 GB or Radeon HD 7770 2 GB as minimum Windows hardware; its recommended tier raises memory to 16 GB and names a GTX 750 Ti 2 GB or Radeon R7 260X 2 GB. Steam publishes compatibility requirements, not an FPS target, so those specs cannot promise a particular frame rate or smoothness.
Official PC requirements
The current Steam listing, checked October 4, 2026, separates Windows requirements from SteamOS/Linux requirements. The GPU models are examples of hardware classes to compare against, not performance benchmarks for every PC.
| Platform | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Windows | Windows 10 (64-bit); Intel Core i3 at 3.2 GHz or AMD equivalent; 8 GB RAM; NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 (2 GB VRAM) or AMD Radeon HD 7770 (2 GB VRAM); DirectX 11; 1 GB available storage; DirectX-compatible sound card. | Windows 11 (64-bit); Intel Core i5-2400 at 3.1 GHz or AMD equivalent; 16 GB RAM; NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti (2 GB VRAM) or AMD Radeon R7 260X (2 GB VRAM); DirectX 11; 1 GB available storage; DirectX-compatible sound card. |
| SteamOS/Linux | Ubuntu 20.04 or newer / SteamOS; Intel Core i3 at 3.2 GHz or AMD equivalent; 8 GB RAM; NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 (2 GB VRAM) or AMD Radeon HD 7770 (2 GB VRAM); 1 GB available storage. | Ubuntu 20.04 or newer / SteamOS; Intel Core i5-2400 at 3.1 GHz or AMD equivalent; 16 GB RAM; NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti (2 GB VRAM) or AMD Radeon R7 260X (2 GB VRAM); 1 GB available storage. |
The Windows listing specifies a 64-bit processor and operating system and DirectX 11. The Linux listing does not separately state a DirectX requirement. See the Hearth and Hamlet Steam listing for the current requirements.
How to compare your PC with the requirements
- Check your operating system. The minimum Windows entry is Windows 10 64-bit; the recommended entry is Windows 11 64-bit. For Linux, compare against the separate Ubuntu 20.04-or-newer / SteamOS row.
- Check your processor and installed RAM. Compare your CPU with the named Intel examples or AMD equivalent, and note whether your PC has 8 GB or 16 GB of installed memory.
- Identify your graphics card and its VRAM. Compare its model with the listed GPU examples. Both tiers list 2 GB VRAM on those examples, so the recommended GPU names do not indicate a higher stated VRAM capacity.
- Confirm storage and, on Windows, DirectX 11. The listing calls for 1 GB of available storage. Windows users should also check DirectX 11 support.
Meeting or exceeding a listed example is a useful compatibility reference, but it does not establish how many frames per second your particular system will deliver.
#1 Best Overall
- GROW a humble Hamlet into a bustling town.
- BUILD YOUR VILLAGE: Hamlet features irregular shaped tiles that connect together without a grid to form a village that is completely different every time.
- TILE PLACEMNENT organically creates interconnecting paths that the villagers use to transport resources across the village. This leads players to construct boards where no two games will ever feel the same.
- PROVIDE FOR THE VILLAGE: Since the buildings are communal, this also creates a fluid economy, where players are always working hard to provide the village with the resources that are most needed.
- EASY TO LEARN while providing a lot of depth, medium weight competitive village builder, irregular tile shapes, organic village growth.
What performance can you expect?
The Steam requirements do not specify a tested resolution, graphics preset, frame rate, or late-game performance result. The official material cited here therefore cannot support a promise such as a particular FPS figure, nor does meeting the recommended tier guarantee a specific level of smoothness.
The developer has described two changes relevant to hardware headroom, but neither is an independent performance test:
Rank #2
- Hamlet is a medium weight competitive village builder where players are communally turning their hamlet into a bustling little town, by completing the construction of the church.
- Hamlet features irregular shaped tiles that connect together without a grid to form a village that is completely different every time.
- The tile placement organically creates interconnecting paths that the villagers use to access buildings.
- Distance between buildings matters, as resources need to be transported from one building to another. This leads players to construct boards where no two games will ever feel the same.
- Since the buildings are communal, this also creates a fluid economy, where players need to adapt to the emergent needs of their Hamlet.
- In patch 1.0.06, the developer raised recommended RAM from 8 GB to 16 GB. Its August 28, 2026 notes say, “8GB can still work flawlessly, but leaves little room for multitasking.” That is a general developer statement, not a guarantee for every PC or workload.
- In patch 1.0.07, dated September 5, 2026, the developer reported that hundreds of changes cut VRAM usage by about 1.1 GB and said the change should improve stability, especially on lower-spec hardware. This is a developer-reported optimization, not a measured FPS gain.
Use 16 GB as the current recommended RAM figure even if an older page shows 8 GB as recommended; the current Steam listing retains 8 GB as the minimum. Read Phorust Studios’ Hearth and Hamlet patch notes.
Is upgrading from 8 GB RAM worthwhile?
If your system has 8 GB, moving to 16 GB would bring it to the published recommended memory amount, provided the computer supports a compatible upgrade. Before buying memory, verify its type, the number of available slots, and the system’s supported capacity. The listed requirements and patch notes do not establish that adding RAM alone will increase FPS or fix graphics-related instability.

Can Hearth and Hamlet run on Steam Deck or Linux?
The Steam listing provides a SteamOS/Linux requirements row that names SteamOS or Ubuntu 20.04 and newer. That indicates a listed Linux requirement set; it is not, by itself, a Steam Deck verification or a tested Deck performance result. Use the Linux row as a baseline and check the current Steam listing for any platform-status updates.
