Games Like Hearth and Hamlet: Cozy Village-Building Alternatives

Fabledom matches Hearth and Hamlet's relaxed settlement growth and resource management, but its listing does not make it a crop-focused farming sim.

If you want a game like Hearth and Hamlet, start with Fabledom for relaxed, fairytale settlement building. It shares the appeal of growing a village and managing resources, but it is not established as a crop-focused farming game. That distinction matters if “cozy farming” means planting and harvesting rather than building up a town.

What kind of game is Hearth and Hamlet?

The Steam listing describes Hearth and Hamlet as a medieval incremental city builder and clicker. Its advertised progression starts with a campfire and grows toward a kingdom through resource management, upgrade trees, idle gameplay, technology research, laws, and trade with distant lands. The listing’s tagline is “Start with a campfire. Build a kingdom.”

That makes the closest useful comparison a settlement-growth game, not automatically a farming sim. The store tags include incremental, city builder, base building, relaxing, resource management, simulation, economy, strategy, pixel graphics, and single-player. These are Steam’s descriptions and tags, not independent gameplay findings. Steam names Phorust Studios as developer and Runic Forge and Gamersky Games as publishers; it lists August 19, 2026 as the release date.

Best match for village building: Fabledom

Fabledom on Steam is a laid-back city builder set in a wholesome fairytale world. Its listing emphasizes growing a settlement, managing resources, following citizens’ lives and relationships with neighboring kingdoms, romance, trade, and defense. It is a single-player game; Steam lists May 13, 2024 as its release date, Grenaa Games as developer, and Dear Villagers and Doyoyo Games as publishers.

Asmodee Cozy Stickerville Board Game
  • BUILD YOUR DREAM VILLAGE: Use stickers to create houses, farms, shops, and more as your town grows into something truly unique.
  • IMMERSIVE STORY EXPERIENCE: Follow your residents’ personal stories, uncover mysteries, and explore activities like fishing, mining, and even finding love.
  • CHOICES THAT MATTER: You can’t lose, but every decision shapes future years—buildings have unique effects that open new gameplay possibilities.
  • PERFECT FOR FAMILIES & FANS OF COZY GAMES: Easy to learn, quick to play, and ideal for families, hobby gamers, and fans of Animal Crossing, Stardew Valley, and The Sims.
  • QUALITY COMPONENTS INCLUDED: Comes with a Story Book, Sticker Book, 120 Event Cards, 60 Catalogue Cards, tokens, and more for endless replayability.

Choose Fabledom if the part you want to repeat is watching a cozy settlement expand and balancing its needs in a storybook setting. Its social and neighboring-kingdom systems also give the village a relationship and strategy layer. The listing does not establish crop farming as a central mechanic, so it is a fairytale village-building alternative rather than a direct farming-sim substitute.

Which parts of Hearth and Hamlet do you want more of?

What you want How the listed games compare Best fit from these two
Idle accumulation and upgrades Hearth and Hamlet explicitly lists idle gameplay and upgrade trees; Fabledom‘s description does not establish an idle progression loop. Hearth and Hamlet
Active village growth and resource management Both are described around settlement growth and resources; Fabledom is explicitly presented as a laid-back city builder. Fabledom for a fairytale village; Hearth and Hamlet for incremental progression
Crop-focused farming Neither reviewed listing establishes crop farming as a central activity; Fabledom‘s listing focuses on village-building systems. Neither is confirmed here as a farming-first match
Relationships and romance Fabledom highlights citizens’ lives, relationships with neighboring kingdoms, and romance. The Hearth and Hamlet listing does not establish romance as a feature. Fabledom
Trade, diplomacy, laws, or defense Hearth and Hamlet lists laws and trade with distant lands; Fabledom lists neighboring kingdoms, trade, and defense. Depends on whether you prefer kingdom-scale laws and distant trade or a fairytale settlement with neighbors and defense

How to choose between them

  • Pick Hearth and Hamlet if you want a medieval incremental loop where idle resources, upgrades, research, laws, and trade are central to the advertised progression.
  • Pick Fabledom if you want a relaxed fairytale town builder with citizen relationships, romance, neighboring kingdoms, trade, and defense.
  • Look for a dedicated farming sim instead if planting and harvesting crops are the main activities you want. The two listings covered here do not establish that as the core loop.
