You can’t currently follow a documented, publicly available method to run Windows games on a PS5 with Proton. Sony does not list Proton or Windows PC games as PS5 features. Reports published October 3, 2026 describe an unofficial Proton demonstration on a modified PS5, but do not establish a public release, installation guide, supported games, or performance results.
Is Proton supported on PS5?
No. Sony’s PS5 support information covers supported PS4 games on PS5, while its PC pages describe PlayStation games available for PC. Neither documents a way to run Windows PC games or Proton on the console: PS5 backward compatibility and PlayStation games on PC.
Proton is Valve’s compatibility technology for SteamOS and Linux, not a PS5 feature. Steam Support describes Steam Play as a way some Windows-only Steam games may work on Linux, and Valve’s Steam Deck materials assess game compatibility for the Deck experience. Those documents do not describe installing or using Proton on a PS5: Steam Play, Steam Deck Verified, and Proton on Steam Deck.
What is the reported PS5 Proton demonstration?
Reports dated October 3, 2026 describe PP (PS5 Proton) as an unofficial homebrew demonstration running on a modified PS5. That is not the same as a generally available method or a Sony-supported feature. The reports said no public build or code repository was available at that time: Tom’s Hardware report and Notebookcheck report.

Those reports do not establish which PS5 firmware or modifications are required, how to install PP, which games work, or how well they run. Without public project documentation, there is no reliable step-by-step installation guide or compatibility list to follow.
What can you use instead?
Use a Steam Deck for a documented Proton environment
If your goal is to play supported Windows games through Proton, a Steam Deck is a separate Linux-based gaming device with Valve’s documented SteamOS and game-compatibility framework. Check each game’s Steam Deck compatibility information; this route runs on the Deck, not on your PS5, and does not make Steam games playable on the console.

Keep using the PS5 for supported PlayStation games
On PS5, use games supported for the console, including eligible PS4 titles through backward compatibility. That feature concerns PlayStation games and does not add support for Windows software.

What to verify before following future PP instructions
