For iPhone and iPad owners who want downloadable games, Apple Arcade is the closest fit; for Android users, Google Play Pass is the natural place to start. If you want console games streamed to a phone or tablet instead, Xbox Cloud Gaming is a different kind of option—with more demanding connection and controller requirements. The right choice depends on your device, the games available in your country, and whether you want to install games or stream them.

Apple Arcade: best for a curated Apple-device library
Apple Arcade is the most direct alternative if you play on an iPhone or iPad and want games designed to download rather than stream. Apple describes its offering as “unlimited access to hundreds of premium games,” without ads or in-app purchases. Its current US page lists $6.99 per month or $49.99 per year; those figures are US prices and may differ elsewhere. Apple says the service supports iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV 4K, and Apple Vision Pro, and that games can be played online or offline. See Apple Arcade’s current details.
Apple also supports Family Sharing for up to five additional family members. That can make the subscription useful across a household’s Apple devices, but individual games can differ in device and controller support. Browse the current catalog for titles you would actually play before choosing a plan.

Google Play Pass: best starting point for Android users
Google says Play Pass includes over 1,000 games and apps without ads or in-app purchases. It is a selected catalog, not a subscription that unlocks every game in Google Play. Google notes that availability and selection vary by country and can change; some apps may leave the catalog, after which they may require separate purchase or show ads or in-app purchases. Check Google Play Pass details and terms.
Play Pass supports Family Library, but the official support page used here does not establish a reliable current price. Check the subscription offer in your local Google Play account, then search for the games and apps you want before subscribing.

Xbox Cloud Gaming: for streamed console games
Xbox Cloud Gaming is not a native mobile-game library like Arcade or Play Pass. It streams supported console games to compatible phones and tablets, so play depends on your network as well as the game and device. Xbox lists Apple and Android phones and tablets among supported devices; cloud access is subject to regional availability and eligible Game Pass plans. The catalog and cloud features can vary by plan.
Xbox’s setup guidance calls for “A compatible controller connected via Bluetooth or USB.” Some games support Xbox touch controls, but do not assume that every cloud title can be played without a controller. Xbox recommends 5 GHz Wi-Fi and lists 10 Mbps for mobile as a best-performance rate; that is provider guidance, not a guarantee of smooth play. Check the current Xbox Cloud Gaming requirements for your region and device before subscribing.

Xbox Wire’s December 19, 2025 guide described Game Pass Essential as offering more than 50 games and starting at $10 per month, and Premium as offering 200+ games for $14.99 per month. How to choose without paying for the wrong catalog
- Start with your device. For an iPhone or iPad, inspect Apple Arcade; for Android, inspect Play Pass. Consider Xbox Cloud Gaming only if your device and region are supported.
- Look up specific games. Search each service’s current catalog for the titles you want, rather than deciding from a headline game count. Catalogs can change, and Play Pass availability varies by country.
- Choose download or stream. Downloadable catalog games are the better fit when you want local play and, where supported, offline access. Cloud gaming depends on a suitable network connection and may use mobile data.
- Compare the full local cost. Check the price at checkout, billing period, family-sharing terms, and whether the subscription renews automatically. Apple’s figures above are US prices; a current Google Play Pass price is not established here.
- Check controls and household needs. For cloud play, confirm whether your preferred game supports touch or requires a compatible Bluetooth or USB controller. For native games, check controller support title by title. Review each service’s family-sharing rules if multiple people will use it.
Where Netflix Games fits
Netflix is the reference point rather than an alternative in this comparison. Netflix says its games are installed from mobile app stores and accessed through an active Netflix account and profile; supported iOS/iPadOS or Android versions apply. If you want to move beyond Netflix, compare the other services by device, catalog, and play style instead of treating Netflix as a separate recommendation. Netflix’s mobile game instructions explain installation and account access.
