Use the clues in order if you want to solve the puzzle before seeing the answer key.

Look for familiar two-word phrases among the sixteen words.

Each phrase begins with a color.

The colors are a six-letter primary color, a secondary color made by mixing yellow and blue, a four-letter primary color, and a regal color made by mixing blue and red.

Connections answers for October 23, 2024
The four categories are built with the color words yellow, green, blue, and purple. Each color goes before its four answers to form a familiar phrase.

Why the groups fit
The trick is recognizing that each set shares the same color prefix, rather than a connection among the four words on their own. For instance, CAB, JACKET, JOURNALISM, and PAGES all form established phrases when preceded by “yellow.” The same pattern completes the other three groups.
This highly consistent color-prefix structure is specific to puzzle #500; it is not a rule that applies to every Connections puzzle.
