Another Crab’s Treasure has an unusually strong hook: a hermit crab sets out to recover a repossessed shell in a deteriorating underwater world. Aggro Crab’s store listings promise a soulslike built around shells and Umami abilities, with adjustable difficulty and a playful tone. Those details make it an intriguing spin on the genre, but store descriptions alone cannot establish how satisfying its combat, exploration, or humor are in play. This is a feature-based assessment, not a hands-on review.
What is Another Crab’s Treasure?
Another Crab’s Treasure is a single-player action-adventure and soulslike from developer and publisher Aggro Crab. Steam lists its release date as April 25, 2024, and describes challenging combat in a crumbling undersea setting. The story premise is more distinctive than the genre label: a hermit crab’s shell has been repossessed, prompting a journey to buy it back. Steam’s store listing
That premise gives the game an immediately legible identity, while the soulslike framing sets an expectation of combat challenge. The contrast is promising, but the available listing information cannot tell us whether the jokes land consistently or whether the narrative develops beyond its setup.
How do shells and Umami abilities fit in?
Shells and Umami abilities are presented as central to the game’s mechanics. Steam advertises more than 50 shells, while Nintendo’s separate Switch 2 Edition listing advertises more than 60. These are claims from two different edition listings, not a directly comparable count for a single version. Steam listing · Nintendo Switch 2 Edition listing

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The variety suggests that finding and using different shells is intended to shape the experience, rather than serving only as a visual gag. But the listings do not explain the shells’ specific effects, how Umami abilities are acquired, or how much either system changes combat moment to moment. Those are important questions for a full gameplay judgment and cannot be settled from the feature descriptions alone.
Is it difficult, and can you adjust the challenge?
Steam lists adjustable difficulty. Its store description says the game is designed to be approachable for newer soulslike players while still offering a challenge for genre veterans. Nintendo similarly positions its Switch 2 Edition as approachable for newcomers and challenging for experienced fans. Both are publisher descriptions, not independent evaluations of the game’s actual difficulty. Steam listing · Nintendo Switch 2 Edition listing

Adjustable difficulty is a useful sign for players who want some control over the challenge, but the listings do not specify what the settings change or how much they affect combat. If you are choosing the game specifically because you want a gentler entry into soulslikes—or a demanding test—you should not treat the publisher’s positioning as proof of either experience.
What accessibility and control options are listed?
Steam lists camera comfort options, custom volume controls, stereo sound, full controller support, and a controller recommendation. These options may help players tailor parts of the experience, but the listing does not detail the individual camera settings or establish broader accessibility coverage. A controller is recommended, not stated to be required. Steam listing

Which editions are documented?
Steam lists the PC game, and Nintendo has a separate listing for Another Crab’s Treasure – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. The shell counts advertised on those pages differ, so check the specific edition listing rather than assuming feature numbers carry across platforms. The available information here does not establish platform-by-platform performance, frame rates, patch status, or whether the editions otherwise differ in content.
For collectors, iam8bit’s regional page documents a physical edition that includes a soundtrack download code. The page does not establish current stock or availability in every region, so confirm those details on the seller’s page before making plans to buy. iam8bit’s Another Crab’s Treasure page

What do other reviews say?
Steam reproduces excerpts from several third-party reviews. IGN calls the game “so clever and wonderfully ridiculous” and says it is “absolutely worth your time.” Try Hard Guides praises its execution and affection for the genre, while PC Gamer describes it as “the most fun I’ve had with a soulslike since Elden Ring.” These are attributed review excerpts hosted on Steam; they are other outlets’ opinions, not independent evidence of how every player will respond. Who should consider playing it?
- Soulslike players curious about a different setting: the underwater world and repossessed-shell premise offer a clear change of scenery, while the game still identifies itself as a challenging soulslike.
- Players who want some control over difficulty: Steam lists adjustable difficulty, though the specific effects of its settings are not detailed in the listing.
- Players drawn to distinctive mechanics and humor: shells and Umami abilities are central selling points, and the premise leans into absurdity. Whether those elements work consistently is a matter for direct play, not something a store description can verify.
- Players choosing by platform or edition: compare the listing for the version you intend to play. The documented shell counts differ between Steam and Nintendo’s Switch 2 Edition page, and performance details are not established here.
Verdict
Another Crab’s Treasure makes a compelling case on concept: it combines a familiar soulslike promise with an undersea setting, a memorable shell-based premise, advertised shell variety, and adjustable difficulty. Steam’s listed controller support and comfort options add practical appeal, and a Switch 2 Edition is listed by Nintendo. The central limitation is evidentiary: without direct play, its combat feel, exploration, platforming balance, humor, and technical performance cannot be responsibly rated. Treat it as a distinctive prospect rather than a confirmed recommendation based on those qualities.
