The useful choice depends first on which drivers are favored for the exact course and variant, then on their special skills and upgrade state. Treat overall tier lists as broad context—not as a course-by-course answer. Also note that Nintendo ended the game’s service on September 30, 2026, so this is historical reference advice rather than guidance for a live tour.
How to choose a driver for a specific course
- Identify the exact course and variant. Driver coverage can differ between courses and variants, so do not assume a driver favored on one version is favored on another.
- Start with the drivers favored for that course. Course fit is the first filter; an overall tier position cannot establish a driver’s fit for a specific course.
- Compare special skills. Among suitable drivers, consider the skill associated with each one. Nintendo has noted that favored courses and special skills vary by Mii Racing Suit.
- Account for upgrade state. Drivers and related gear could be upgraded in the game. Compare the relevant driver levels when judging options, but the sources here do not establish a universal level threshold that makes one driver best.
- Clarify what “best” means. A broad viability or popularity ranking is different from a recommendation for a particular course, ranked cup, or scoring target.

What the tier list can—and cannot—tell you
Pocket Gamer’s Mario Kart Tour tier list, updated September 2, 2026 and labeled version 3.7.0, ranks drivers by viability and popularity. It includes Luigi (Classic), Toadette (Explorer), and Rosalina (Swimwear) among its S-tier examples, with explanations of their skills. Those are Pocket Gamer’s broad editorial placements, not Nintendo rankings and not verified winners for every course.
Use such a list to get general context, then check course fit and the other comparison factors for the exact course and variant. The sources available for this article do not establish a complete historical driver-by-course dataset or a standardized performance test, so they do not support naming a definitive top driver for every course.

Service status and historical records
Nintendo says Mario Kart Tour service ended on September 30, 2026. Its U.S. support notice gives the cutoff as 11:00 p.m. PT on September 29, 2026—the same moment expressed in a different time zone. Nintendo’s game page says past tour stats and inquiries remained viewable in-app until January 13, 2027, and All-Cup rankings until the end of September 2027. These are limited windows for viewing records after service ended, not evidence that live tours or upgrades remain available.
