Some warmth during a demanding game is normal; if your phone shows a temperature warning or becomes uncomfortably hot, stop playing and let it cool.
Why phones get warm and lose battery during games
Games can put sustained demands on a phone’s processor and graphics hardware, using more power and producing heat. Apple says it is normal for iPhone and iPad to feel warmer during graphics-intensive or processor-intensive games. Samsung likewise warns that Galaxy Game Booster’s Performance mode may heat the device because it consumes more battery.
Warmth alone does not mean the phone is damaged. The important distinction is whether the device is merely warm during heavy use or has become uncomfortably hot, displays a temperature warning, or continues overheating for a prolonged period.
Lower the game’s power demands
Reduce graphics quality or frame rate
If the game offers graphics, frame-rate, resolution, or performance settings, try lowering them. These options vary by game, and the names differ. Reducing visual demands may make the game look less detailed or smooth, but can reduce the work the phone has to do. The cited manufacturer guidance does not quantify how much battery or heat any particular setting will save.

Choose a more efficient Samsung Game Booster mode
On supported Samsung Galaxy devices, Samsung documents this path: Gaming Hub > More > Game Booster > Game optimisation. Choose Standard to balance performance and battery time, or Battery saver to save power while gaming. Performance prioritizes high performance and may increase heat. Adjust screen brightness and connection
Turn down brightness
Lower the screen brightness to a comfortable level, especially when playing indoors or in the shade. Apple identifies high brightness as a battery-energy consumer; you do not need maximum brightness when the screen is already easy to see. Apple: Maximizing Battery Performance.
Prefer Wi-Fi for online games when practical
For internet-connected games, Apple recommends Wi-Fi when available because Wi-Fi uses less battery power than mobile networks, and advises using a strong signal. This is guidance about battery use, not a guarantee that Wi-Fi will noticeably cool a phone; connection quality and game behavior still matter. Apple: Maximizing Battery Performance.

Play in a cooler place
Move out of direct sunlight and avoid playing in a hot car or other hot space. Apple specifies an ambient operating range of 0–35°C (32–95°F) for iPhone and iPad. Separately, Apple says the ideal ambient temperature for those devices is 16–22°C (62–72°F), and advises avoiding use or charging above 35°C (95°F) because high temperatures can permanently shorten battery life. On iPhone or iPad, open Settings > Battery to review battery usage by app and the battery-health information available for your device. If Battery Health displays Service, Apple advises considering battery service. A game’s high usage or normal warmth by itself does not establish that the battery needs replacement. What to do if the phone overheats
If a temperature warning appears
Stop gaming. For an iPhone or iPad showing a temperature warning, Apple instructs users to turn off the device, move it to a cooler place away from direct sunlight, and allow it to cool before using it again. Heat protections may dim the screen, reduce performance, or slow or pause charging. Apple: Keeping iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch within acceptable operating temperatures.
If it feels uncomfortably hot or stays hot
Stop using the device and give it time to cool in a cooler environment. Samsung advises taking a break if a Galaxy device overheats or feels hot for a prolonged period; if prolonged overheating continues, contact Samsung or an authorized service centre. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 user guide.
Do not put the phone in a refrigerator or freezer. Manufacturer guidance is to move it to a cooler place and let it cool, not to chill it abruptly.
