The September 30, 2026 update does not give a Season 5 launch date.
What EA has announced for Season 5
In its September 30, 2026 community update, the Battlefield Team said Season 5 is approaching and previewed new maps, weapons, a REDSEC mode, gameplay changes and Portal updates. EA says the update is a preview, with a fuller reveal still to come.
Three maps set in Vegas
EA plans three maps that take the action to Vegas over the course of Season 5. Two are planned for launch; the third is part of the season’s later content. The update does not name the maps or provide further details about their layouts.
New weapons and gameplay changes
The preview confirms new weapons but does not identify them. EA also says armor plating will be 20% faster across all REDSEC classes in Season 5. This is a planned change, not a report that the update is already live.

REDSEC and Portal
REDSEC, Battlefield 6’s free-to-play experience, is slated to get Rapid Royale. EA also lists Portal changes among the season’s planned content, but the September preview does not specify what those changes will include.
Which features are planned for launch and which come later?
The September update distinguishes launch content from a feature planned later in the season. EA’s earlier June progress update adds context on other roadmap items, but does not give a firm date for Multiplayer Ranked.

Are the updates paid content?
EA describes its 2026 roadmap updates as free for Battlefield 6 owners and for the free-to-play REDSEC experience. The Season 5 preview does not identify a paid expansion. EA’s Battlefield 6 page lists purchase options for PlayStation, Xbox, EA app, Steam and Epic Games Store.
What EA’s other figures say
EA reported that weapon-balance sentiment in its Community Survey rose by 23 points from June to July, moving from negative to positive. The June progress update does not state the survey sample size, so the figure describes EA’s survey result rather than a broader measure of player opinion.
