In a PPR league, the catch can also earn reception points: under ESPN’s described full-PPR format, that makes the play worth seven points before yardage or bonuses. Your league’s scoring settings—not a platform example—decide the actual total.
Why a touchdown catch can score more than six points
Fantasy scoring treats the touchdown and the catch as separate events. The league awards points for the receiving touchdown, then may award additional points for the completed reception. Yardage and any league-specific bonuses can add more.
ESPN describes its PPR format this way: “In a PPR league, players who catch a reception will earn a point.” In its standard non-PPR format, a catch earns no reception point. Those are ESPN format examples; leagues can use customized values.
Platform examples
| Platform documentation | Receiving touchdown | Reception | Receiving yards |
|---|---|---|---|
| ESPN standard PPR example | 6 points | 1 point per reception | Not stated in the cited scoring-format example |
| ESPN standard non-PPR example | 6 points | 0 points | Not stated in the cited scoring-format example |
| Yahoo default head-to-head points example | 6 points | Not stated in the cited default-settings example | 1 point per 10 receiving yards |
| NFL Fantasy documentation | Its 2025 official rules describe a six-point touchdown in a scoring example | Commissioners can change settings to standard or half-point-per-reception scoring | Not stated in the cited sources |
These are documented examples, not universal settings. ESPN says league managers can edit scoring categories and values; Yahoo’s published defaults do not guarantee the settings used by a particular private league. NFL Fantasy’s documentation describes its own platform.

Calculate the points for your tight end
Use the values displayed in your league’s scoring settings. Add only the categories that apply to the play:
- Start with the league’s receiving-touchdown award.
- Add the reception award if the play was a catch. In non-PPR, that award is zero; in half-PPR or full PPR, use the league’s displayed amount.
- Add points for receiving yards using the league’s yardage rate.
- Add any listed bonuses, including a tight-end-specific premium, if the player and play qualify under your league rules.
For example, in ESPN’s described standard PPR format, one receiving touchdown with no yardage counted in the illustration is 6 touchdown points + 1 reception point = 7 points before yardage or bonuses. In the described non-PPR format, the same touchdown is 6 + 0 = 6 points before yardage or bonuses.

Check for custom tight-end scoring
Some leagues may list a TE premium or another position-specific adjustment. The reviewed platform documentation confirms that scoring can be customized, but it does not establish a universal TE-premium amount or a universal platform default. Check your league’s scoring categories for the actual bonus and how it is applied.
For a specific matchup, open the league’s scoring settings and compare the receiving-touchdown value, points per catch, receiving-yard rate, and any position-specific adjustment. Do not infer those values from “PPR” alone: reception scoring can be zero, half a point, a full point, or a custom amount.
