Cities: Skylines II has no confirmed PS5 or Xbox Series X|S release date because it has not yet met Paradox’s performance, stability and quality targets for consoles. The publisher has described CPU simulation and GPU graphics bottlenecks that can cause frame-rate drops and memory overload. Its current console page says more work is needed, but gives no dated release window.
Why is Cities: Skylines II delayed on consoles?
Paradox says the console versions are not yet stable and performant enough to deliver the experience it wants. The problem is not simply that the game needs to run at a lower frame rate: the developer has described issues involving both the simulation running on the CPU and graphics handled by the GPU.
In its July 8, 2024 status update, Paradox said it had not met the stability and performance targets set for release. By November 25, the publisher was describing frame-rate drops and memory overload under certain actions. Placing larger buildings could involve many entities and create performance bottlenecks, according to its console update.
The team had managed to make the game stable and playable by lowering graphics quality, but judged that result an unacceptable compromise. Paradox said additional simulation and memory optimization was needed before it could estimate a release date.

Is there a Cities: Skylines II console release date?
No. Paradox’s console news page links to PS5 and Xbox wishlists but does not announce a date. The page describes performance and stability as the focus and says more work remains before the desired quality is reached. Its reference to a release “not before summer” is undated, so it cannot be treated as a current, year-specific window.
The official Cities: Skylines II news archive reviewed on October 4, 2026 lists news through September 3, 2026, with no console release announcement among the displayed recent items. That establishes that no date appears in those sources; it does not rule out every possible communication elsewhere.

What happened to the earlier October release target?
October was a conditional target in 2024, not a confirmed launch date. In an April 18, 2024 joint statement, Colossal Order CEO Mariina Hallikainen and Paradox Deputy CEO Mattias Lilja said they hoped an upcoming build would show enough progress to move toward a release candidate and then a release build targeted for October. They explicitly said they could not confirm a release date.
By July 8, Paradox said the October window could not be met without a Release Candidate. It planned to review a new candidate in August before deciding whether submission could begin. In November, it still could not provide an estimate, saying an estimate before unresolved issues were addressed could be premature and misleading.

Who is developing the console versions now?
Paradox announced on November 17, 2025 that Iceflake Studios would take over all Cities: Skylines II development, including console editions, from the start of 2026. The handoff identifies the studio responsible for the work; the announcement does not give a console launch date or say the transition caused the delay.
Earlier, Colossal Order said on August 20, 2025 that it had no new update to share on either the console release or the Asset Editor. It said both remained important and that it would share concrete news when available. That statement is in its developer update.
Where to check for a real release announcement
For the most direct confirmation, check Paradox’s console update page or the game’s official news archive. The console page also links to the PS5 and Xbox wishlists; a wishlist link is not itself confirmation of a date or release.
