GTA VI’s Leonida has been reported as about twice the size of GTA V’s map. That is a relative, attributed comparison—not a published measurement in square miles or square kilometres. Other reports compare Vice City with Los Santos, or each city with its surrounding suburbs; those are different boundaries and produce different ratios.
How much bigger is the GTA 6 map than GTA 5?
Recent reports put the overall GTA VI world, the state of Leonida, at about twice the size of GTA V’s map. TechRadar’s October 1, 2026 report attributes the comparison to Rockstar North co-studio head Aaron Garbut. PC Gamer and VICE also report an approximately two-times comparison based on preview information. These are reported ratios, not independently measured area figures or an official square-mile specification.

The comparisons need to be read by their boundaries. A report that Vice City is about twice the size of Los Santos is not the same as a comparison of Leonida with GTA V’s full map. Nor is either one the same as a report that Vice City and its surroundings are eleven times the size of Los Santos and its surroundings.
| Reported comparison | What the boundary means | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Leonida is about 2× GTA V’s map (TechRadar, Oct. 1, 2026; also reported by PC Gamer and VICE) | Overall GTA VI world compared with GTA V’s overall map. | A square-mile or square-kilometre measurement, or a disclosed measuring method. |
| Vice City is about 2× Los Santos (PC Gamer; VICE) | City-to-city comparison, as described in those reports. | The size of all Leonida compared with all of GTA V. |
| Vice City and its surroundings are 11× Los Santos and its surroundings (PC Gamer, relaying creator TGG’s account) | Each city plus its surrounding area. | A general claim that GTA VI’s entire map is eleven times larger than GTA V’s. |
What is included in Leonida?
Leonida is broader than Vice City: the city is one part of the GTA VI setting, not another name for the entire map. TechRadar’s account names six areas: Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga National Park. The reported setting therefore spans urban, coastal, wetland, town, and park environments.

Why a bigger map may not feel bigger in only one way
Land area is one measure of scale, but it does not tell you how much there is to do, how closely activity is packed, or how much a place changes as you move through it. Density, geographic variety, traversal, and the detail of individual spaces all shape a player’s sense of scale. The reviewed reports do not quantify crossing times or establish how large the world will feel in play, so those remain separate questions from the reported size ratios.
In the October 2026 report, TechRadar attributes this description of the design to Garbut: “This new world is different,” Garbut said. “We obsessed about every part – the rooftops, the alleys, the internals and everything in between to the point we hit a critical mass with the numbers of our interiors, and you start to feel the buildings are more real inside and out. This world is a cohesive whole with the density of content and a hand-crafted quality to every bit.” The detail he emphasizes—rooftops, alleys, interiors, density, and handcrafted spaces—speaks to world design, not a measurable increase in map area.

Are GTA VI’s map dimensions available in square miles or kilometres?
No verified square-mile or square-kilometre measurement appears in the cited reporting. GTA 6 Space’s guide, updated July 8, 2026, said Rockstar had not announced official map dimensions at that point (GTA 6 Space). Later reports relayed comparative ratios from preview information, and TechRadar subsequently attributed the roughly two-times overall comparison to Garbut. A relative ratio does not supply a base area, boundary definition, or measurement method that would support converting it into units.
That timing resolves the apparent conflict: an earlier guide’s statement that dimensions had not been announced can coexist with later reports of approximate comparisons. The later reporting still does not amount to a published area specification, and the available sources do not verify fan-map measurements or leaked estimates as official figures.

How to read future GTA map-size claims
- Check the boundary: Is the claim about the full map, a city, or a city with its suburbs?
- Check the metric: A reported ratio is not a measured area in square miles or kilometres.
- Check the attribution: Distinguish a statement attributed to a Rockstar developer from preview information relayed through a creator or outlet.
- Separate area from experience: A larger footprint does not by itself establish greater density, more interiors, more activities, or longer travel times.
