Litematica displays a schematic as an in-game blueprint you can follow while building. It can help you select, position, inspect, edit, and—in creative or permission-enabled server contexts—paste a schematic. It does not automatically build a structure for you in ordinary survival play. The title says 2025, but compatibility guidance here reflects the project information checked on October 4, 2026; choose files for your exact Minecraft version and loader.
What Litematica does—and what it does not
Litematica is a client-side Minecraft mod for working with schematic files. Its overlay shows the target structure in the world, while its selection, placement, layer, material, and verification tools help you plan and carry out a build. In survival, you still need to obtain and place the blocks yourself. Pasting is a separate operation, documented as creative-only and subject to server permissions when used on a server. Install the right Litematica and malilib files
- Check your Minecraft version and loader. Select a Litematica release that matches the version and loader you actually use. The project repository describes Fabric ports beginning with Minecraft 1.14, but that historical statement does not guarantee support for every current release.
- Install malilib as well. Litematica requires this library. The project repository says Fabric API is not required for Litematica.
- Use release-specific compatibility information. Do not assume an older version list applies to a newer game release; consult the project’s release and installation information for your exact combination. Litematica project repository
Open Litematica and find its hotkeys
Press M for the main menu or M then C for the configuration screen with the default hotkeys. To review or change them, open Config → Hotkeys. Litematica uses malilib’s custom hotkey system, so its controls are not listed among Minecraft’s ordinary Controls keybinds. Keyboard layout can also affect which physical key produces a configured shortcut. Litematica project FAQ

Load a schematic and make it visible
- Place the schematic file in
.minecraft/schematics/. - Open the menu with
Mand choose Load Schematics. - Select the file. Keep Create Placement checked when loading if you want a blueprint placement created at the same time.
- Load the schematic. If it is in memory but no blueprint appears, open Schematic Placements and create a placement for it.
A loaded schematic and a placement are different things: the first is the file’s data in memory; a placement is an instance positioned in the world for rendering. One schematic can have multiple placements. Litematica project wiki: Basic Operations
#1 Best Overall
- Minecraft is a game about placing blocks and going on adventures
- Explore randomly generated worlds and build amazing things from the simplest of homes to the grandest of castles
- Play in creative mode with unlimited resources or mine deep into the world in survival mode, crafting weapons and armor to fend off the dangerous mobs
- Play on the go in handheld or tabletop modes
- Includes Super Mario Mash-Up, Natural Texture Pack, Biome Settlers Skin Pack, Battle & Beasts Skin Pack, Campfire Tales Skin Pack; Compatible with Nintendo Switch only
Position, rotate, and lock the blueprint
- Select the placement you want to adjust, then switch to Schematic Placement tool mode.
- Use the placement tool to move its origin. To nudge it in the direction you are looking, use
Altplus the mouse wheel. - Open M → Schematic Placements → Configure, or select the placement and press
Numpad Minus, to adjust its rotation or mirror setting. - When it lines up with the intended build area, lock the placement so you do not move it accidentally.
The exact controls can be changed in the hotkey editor. Litematica project FAQ Litematica.org practical guide
Build from the overlay and plan materials
Use Render Layers to show one slice of the schematic at a time, which can make tall or dense builds easier to follow. Open the Material List with M then L to review the blocks needed. These features help you plan; they do not provide materials or place blocks for you. For a schematic check, the project’s FAQ lists the Schematic Verifier at M then V. Litematica project FAQ

Create and save a schematic from a build
- Use the area-selection tool in Normal mode. Left-click and right-click blocks to set the two corners of the selection. If you are sneaking, a corner can be set next to the targeted block rather than inside it.
- Add multiple boxes if you need separate sub-regions in the selection.
- Check that the selected area is within loaded chunks. If it extends beyond them, move through the area to load the chunks; Litematica reports missing chunks.
- Use the Area Editor or its save hotkey to save the selection as a schematic.
Before saving a redstone build, turn active mechanisms off when practical. The wiki warns that moving piston heads or powered observers can produce unwanted saved states. A single-player save can include more data because Litematica can read from the integrated server. An ordinary multiplayer client does not receive all server-side block or entity NBT and scheduled block ticks, so inventories in a schematic saved from a typical server may be empty. Edit a loaded schematic
Enter Edit Schematic mode; some older versions call it Schematic Rebuild. Changes are made to the loaded in-memory copy, so save that copy to a file if you want to keep the edits. The wiki warns against overwriting the original in versions with a known corruption issue. Exit Edit mode before trying to place or break ordinary world blocks where they overlap the schematic. Manual building versus pasting
| Method | Where it applies | What happens | Limits to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|---|
| Follow the overlay | Ordinary survival or creative building | You gather and place blocks by hand using the schematic as a guide. | It does not automatically supply materials or construct the build. |
| Paste the schematic | Creative contexts; on servers, only when you have permission for the required commands | Litematica issues commands such as /setblock and /fill; supported versions may also use WorldEdit commands when permitted. |
Command availability, server rules, rate controls, version behavior, and block-entity data affect results. Do not assume every inventory, entity detail, scheduled tick, or redstone state will be restored. |
Before pasting, choose the replacement behavior deliberately: paste into air only, replace with non-air schematic blocks, or replace all blocks that differ. The project wiki also documents command-rate controls and an optional /fill optimization for builds from the 1.18.1-era versions; behavior is version-dependent. Restoring block-entity NBT can be slower and has caveats involving fill regions. Litematica project wiki: Basic Operations Litematica project wiki: Schematic Pasting

Common problems and fixes
- The menu does not open: Try the default
Mkey, then check Config → Hotkeys or your keyboard layout if it conflicts. - The schematic loaded but is not visible: Confirm that loading created a placement, or create one from Schematic Placements.
- The blueprint is in the wrong place or orientation: Select its placement, use Schematic Placement mode to move it, then configure rotation or mirroring.
- Part of a saved selection is missing: The area may include unloaded chunks. Move through the region to load them and check Litematica’s missing-chunk report.
- Saved inventories or redstone details are absent: A normal multiplayer client may not receive server-only data such as block/entity NBT or scheduled ticks. A schematic made from a typical server may therefore lack inventory contents.
