To advance in The Sims 4 Noble career, complete the Royal Duties shown for your current rank, reach the next rank’s skill requirement, and build career performance. Then use a throne and select Noble Promotion > Claim Noble Promotion. From rank 3, you can instead choose a Coronation Speech or Coronation Ceremony. These are promotion methods, not substitutes for meeting the duties, skill and performance requirements.
Join the Noble career
The Noble career is included in The Sims 4: Royalty & Legacy. A title gained through marriage or inheritance is not the same as joining the career: Sims can inherit a title as a Noble’s child or spouse without that alone making career membership interchangeable.

EA lists three ways to enter the career:
- Ask a high-ranking Noble for Knighthood.
- Use a bookcase to research The Duchess Diaries: A History of Nobility.
- In Build Mode, buy a Majestic Throne or Ornate Throne, then choose Join Noble Career.
If you do not own the expansion, the career requires The Sims 4: Royalty & Legacy. EA’s expansion page says The Sims 4 is required and describes the add-on as a digital-content license.
What determines promotion?
EA says advancement depends on completing the Noble Duties required at your current rank, career performance, and the skill level required for the next rank. There are no fixed career hours: performance hinges on completing Royal Duties each day, as EA’s expansion overview explains.

- Create a variety of unique sims with distinct appearances, big personalities, and all new emotions
- Construct the home of your dreams by designing its layout, choosing its furnishings, and altering the landscape
- Explore vibrant worlds: Travel between worlds, explore unique neighborhoods, and discover interesting venues
- Play with life control the rich and entertaining moments of your Sims' lives from their relationships to their career
Check your Sim’s career panel for the duties currently required. They vary by rank, so there is no single universal shift or task list. Career progression also involves favor, wealth and favor alignment; the game’s current career panel is the practical reference for what your Sim needs to do next.
Claim a promotion manually
- Finish the Royal Duties listed for your current rank and build the required career performance.
- Meet the skill gate for the next rank in the table below.
- Click a throne and choose Noble Promotion > Claim Noble Promotion.
At rank 3 and above, the promotion menu also offers a Coronation Speech or Coronation Ceremony. These give you different ways to handle the promotion moment; they do not remove the underlying eligibility requirements.
Turn on automatic promotion
If you would rather not claim each advancement manually, enable Noble Career Auto Promotion in Options > Game Options > Pack Settings. Duties, performance and skill eligibility still matter; this setting changes how promotions are handled.

Rank-by-rank skill requirements
The skill gates below are the requirements EA lists for each rank. They sit alongside duties and career performance. The title examples are defaults, not mandatory names: EA says you can customize rank titles in the Career Panel.

Charisma is required across the listed ranks. Swordsmanship joins the requirements at ranks 4, 6 and 9; it is not listed as a gate at every level.

EA also lists rewards such as Create-a-Sim accessories and traits. The career guide’s rewards are separate from the skill gates above.

A Kingdom has one true ruler. If a Sim already holds rank 10, a Sim who reaches rank 9 gets a Noble Rival. This rivalry is an additional obstacle to reaching Kingdom Leader, beyond the normal duty, performance and skill requirements.
EA lists several ways to resolve it: encourage, pressure, seduce or extort the Monarch to abdicate, or duel for Noble Rivalry. Once the rival obstacle is resolved, pursue the final promotion through the Noble career system.

Keep Noble rank separate from Dynasty progress
Royalty & Legacy also has a multi-generational Dynasty system, but it is distinct from the Noble career’s ten ranks. Dynasty Head, Heir and Outcast are Dynasty roles; Dynasty Prestige rises when members follow the Dynasty’s chosen values. A career promotion does not, by itself, make a Sim Dynasty Head or increase Dynasty Prestige.
