To tell whether a Steam deal is genuinely good, compare the exact game edition’s current price in your own Steam store with its recorded price history—not just the sale badge. Then check bundles and what they include. A tracker’s lowest price is only the lowest its records captured, not necessarily the game’s lifetime low.
Check the game’s price history, not just the sale percentage
A discount percentage compares today’s price with a reference price; it does not tell you whether the game has been cheaper before. SteamDB says its live deal rating is based on the current discount percentage rather than price history, so a large badge alone is not proof that today’s price is unusually low. SteamDB’s price-history pages provide price tables and charts for games, bundles, and packages.

- Search for the game on SteamDB and open its prices table or graph.
- Choose the edition or package you are considering, then select your Steam region or currency.
- Compare the current price with earlier sale prices and the lowest price shown in the tracker.
Read the low as “lowest recorded in this tracker’s data,” not “all-time low.” SteamDB says its displayed low reflects the period it has recorded. Its price-changes FAQ notes that historical US, UK, and EU Steam prices from before 2016 are sourced from IsThereAnyDeal, so the available history can depend on region and period. SteamDB’s FAQ
Verify the price and currency in your own Steam store
Use the price shown for your own store region when deciding what the deal costs you. Valve’s Steamworks documentation says Steam supports pricing in 37 currencies and that partners choose and manage product prices and discounts. A price in another region is not necessarily available to you, so do not treat cross-region comparisons as your checkout price or change your store region as a price shortcut. Before buying, open the game’s official Steam store page and confirm the live price there. SteamDB cautions that its data is provided as-is and does not guarantee accuracy, completeness, or timeliness. Its FAQ separately describes coverage of 41 currencies; that is SteamDB’s tracker coverage claim, not Valve’s official count of Steam currencies.
Make sure you are comparing the same edition or bundle
A base game, deluxe edition, package, and bundle can have different contents and different price histories. Match the tracker page to the item you intend to buy; otherwise, you may compare the price of one edition with the history of another.

- Review what each package or bundle includes.
- Consider whether you already own any included games or items before judging the bundle’s value.
- If a discount looks unexpectedly small, check whether a cheaper bundle or another package explains the difference; SteamDB specifically recommends checking for a cheaper bundle.
A bundle’s lower combined price is useful only if its contents are worth paying for in your situation. Compare what you would actually spend for the items you want, not only the bundle’s headline discount.

Use past prices as context, not as a forecast. If today’s price is close to the tracker’s recorded low and is already within what you are willing to pay, buying now may make sense. If the game has repeatedly been cheaper and you are comfortable waiting, a future sale may offer a better price—but past discounts do not guarantee another discount, a date, or the same low.

Publishers choose their discounts. SteamDB says it cannot know which specific titles, prices, or discounts will appear in an upcoming sale, so there is no evidence-based universal percentage threshold or reliable promise that waiting will pay off. Make the decision around your budget, the price history available, and how much you want the game now.

A quick decision checklist
- Same product: The tracker history matches the edition or package you plan to buy.
- Relevant price: You are comparing amounts in your own store currency and region.
- History in context: You have compared prior sale prices and understand that the tracker low is limited to its recorded data.
- Bundle checked: You have considered the contents and whether you already own any of them.
- Live price confirmed: The Steam store still shows the price you expect before purchase.
- Waiting is acceptable: You are choosing to wait based on your preferences, not assuming a future discount is guaranteed.
