Wishlist games and enable Steam notifications, then use SteamDB or IsThereAnyDeal to spot current discounts, check price history, and set alerts at a price you’re willing to pay. Those tools can help you decide when a deal is worthwhile, but they cannot predict or guarantee a future discount.
Start with Steam’s Wishlist notifications
On Steam, add a game to your Wishlist and turn on email or mobile notifications. Steam says it can notify you when a wishlisted title is discounted as a Daily Deal, Midweek Deal, or Weekend Deal. This is the simplest official way to hear about some individual promotions without monitoring the store yourself. Steam’s Wishlist Notifications page explains the available notification types, and Steam Support’s sales FAQ points users to Wishlist alerts.

Treat these as useful alerts, not a promise that you will be notified about every discount or every sale format. Steam’s developer documentation describes specific rules for certain discount notifications, including a 20% threshold and timing constraints; those are dispatch rules for developers, not a comprehensive consumer guarantee. Steamworks’ 2025 sales documentation has those details.

Use SteamDB to filter current Steam deals
SteamDB’s discounted-games tracker lets you narrow current offers by factors such as price, discount percentage, tags, features, and release date. It can also filter for games on your Wishlist or games you follow. This is useful when you want to browse discounts by genre, price limit, or other criteria instead of scrolling through general store recommendations.

SteamDB also provides price tables and graphs on game pages. Its browser extension can show low-price information on Steam store pages. That makes it easier to check whether a current discount looks notable for that game rather than relying on the store’s discount badge alone. SteamDB supports multiple currencies and documents regional price differences, so make sure the figure you compare is for your own region.
Use IsThereAnyDeal for custom waitlist alerts
IsThereAnyDeal offers game price-history pages, waitlists, and configurable notification rules. You can import a Steam Wishlist and choose to receive alerts only when offers meet your chosen conditions. This takes a little setup, but it is a practical option if you want alerts based on a target price or deal rule rather than every qualifying Steam notification.

SteamDB and IsThereAnyDeal offer overlapping but not identical features. The available information does not establish that one covers every relevant deal better than the other, so you can choose based on the filters and alert controls you prefer.
Check whether today’s discount is a good price for you
- Confirm the current price and currency. Use the price shown for your Steam region, or check the region and currency selected by the tracker. Prices in another region may not be available to you.
- Compare the offer with the game’s recorded price history. SteamDB and IsThereAnyDeal show historical pricing. A large percentage off the list price does not, by itself, mean the current price is the game’s lowest or best offer.
- Set a personal threshold. Decide what you would actually pay for the game. On IsThereAnyDeal, configure waitlist rules around the deal conditions that matter to you.
- Buy when the price, timing, and your interest line up. There is no universal discount percentage that makes a game a good deal. A price that suits your budget and willingness to play is more useful than chasing a headline percentage.
Price history is a reference point, not a forecast. SteamDB says publishers set discounts and that it cannot know which games or prices will appear in future sales. As SteamDB puts it, “Game publishers set the discounts, and they can choose any discount they want.” A game’s previous sale pattern may help you judge the current offer, but it cannot tell you when the next discount will happen.

Keep an eye on themed events, not just seasonal sales
Steam has themed events as well as broad seasonal sales, and individual games can also be discounted outside either kind of event. PC Gamer’s sale calendar, updated September 30, 2026, lists genre-focused events alongside seasonal promotions. These events can be another time to browse for deals, but they do not guarantee that any particular game on your Wishlist will be discounted. PC Gamer’s Steam sale calendar is date-specific, so check it for current dates rather than relying on an old schedule.
Steam’s discovery surfaces may also change: PC Gamer reported on September 29, 2026, that Valve plans to personalize portions of Discounts & Events in 2027. That concerns how games are surfaced to customers; it does not establish that game prices themselves will change dynamically. PC Gamer’s report on the planned discovery changes quotes Valve describing a goal of showing the right game to the right customer.
