Use a price-history tool to answer, “Is this low compared with the prices this service has recorded?” Use an alert or waitlist to answer, “Can it tell me when this game reaches a price or discount I care about?” You can use both: history helps set expectations, while notifications save you from checking manually.

What SteamDB is best at
SteamDB focuses on Steam. Its game pages show price tables and graphs, and the service provides price-change tracking, watchlists, filtered sale listings, and a way to import a Steam wishlist manually. Its browser extension can surface recorded-low information on Steam store pages. Start from the SteamDB price tracker and check the individual game’s history in the region you use.
Read “recorded low” as a statement about the service’s captured prices for that game and region—not proof that the price is the lowest it has ever been everywhere. Coverage varies by title and by the data a service has captured. For context, SteamDB’s tracker page reported daily prices for 92 games since July 2, 2026, as viewed October 4, 2026; that is a dated snapshot of that page’s stated coverage, not a count of all titles SteamDB tracks. Its FAQ says individual game pages contain price histories.

When IsThereAnyDeal is a better fit
Choose IsThereAnyDeal when you want to look beyond Steam or put games on a waitlist. Its game pages include price history, and its waitlist supports sale notifications with configurable rules. What Steam wishlist sale emails actually mean
Steam’s wishlist emails are not alerts for every price reduction. According to Valve’s wishlist documentation, the discount must be at least 20%, apply to the lowest-priced package, and last more than eight hours. The account must have a verified email address to receive these notifications.
Delivery can take several hours. Steam also applies a cooldown of one to two weeks between notifications, which may be extended during busy periods. Treat the wishlist email as a low-effort alert, not a complete record of every sale or a guarantee of immediate notice.

How to compare prices without being misled
Check the right region and currency
Steam says its prices are specified across 37 currencies and four region groups, with publishers choosing prices for each currency and region group. That does not mean every game is sold in every currency. Compare against the storefront you will actually use; Valve’s Steamworks Pricing Explorer describes the system and notes that its conversion methods use public data as of January 2026.
Separate captured history from predictions
A price chart can show what a service has recorded, but it cannot guarantee what a publisher will charge next. Past sale timing may help you decide whether to wait, but publishers choose prices and discounts. SteamDB says it does not know which specific games or prices publishers will choose for an upcoming sale; see its FAQ.

Treat reports of new Steam features cautiously
PC Gamer reported on April 16, 2026, that Steam might expand price history to a 30-day view, based on backend code strings. The report explicitly noted that the feature might never ship. It does not establish a current universal rollout, so check the live Steam store in your region rather than assuming the feature is available.

- For Steam-only history: Open SteamDB’s price tracker, find the game, and inspect its chart for your region and currency. Use its watchlist or manually import your Steam wishlist if you want to monitor multiple titles.
- For cross-store comparisons: Add games to the IsThereAnyDeal waitlist, configure notification rules, and review the local stores and prices it shows.
- For basic Steam alerts: Add games to your Steam wishlist and confirm your account email is verified if you expect discount emails.
- Before buying: Check the current price on the relevant storefront, the region, the edition, and the platform or activation details. A historical low can guide your decision, but it does not establish that a current third-party listing is the right offer.
Which one is the best choice?
Choose SteamDB if you mainly want Steam price charts, recorded-low context, or store-page information. Choose IsThereAnyDeal if you want cross-store discovery and adjustable waitlist alerts. Use Steam’s wishlist emails for a simple, built-in notification, while keeping their discount threshold and delivery rules in mind.
