Look underwater for a large shell with tentacles trailing behind it. The Capture Net is not the safe method for quest credit.
Where to find a Grand Escunite
The most straightforward place to search is the Underground Lake cave in Scarlet Forest Area 8. Enter the cave behind the waterfall, dive into the pool and swim through the submerged passage to the second pool. Check both pools, starting with the farther one; the creature may be deeper underwater than the more obvious fish. PC Gamer’s guide and PCGamesN’s guide describe this route.
Use the Great Lake as an alternative
Grand Escunite has also been reported at the Great Lake in Scarlet Forest Area 17. Gamer Guides associates the Area 17 appearance with Inclemency, the downpour weather condition; PowerPyx likewise recommends looking in the lake’s deeper area during Downpour/Inclemency. By contrast, Gamer Guides reports that the Area 8 cave pool can produce one in any weather and at any time, making it the simpler first stop.
How to catch it for Kanya’s quest
- Accept Razzle Dazzle. It is the final fishing quest in Kanya’s questline; guides place Kanya at the Scarlet Forest Base Camp. PowerPyx and Gamer Guides cover the request.
- Go to Area 8 and search the cave pools. Enter behind the waterfall, swim through the underwater passage and scan below the surface in both pools.
- Equip the fishing rod and Kanya’s Tentacle Jig. Cast for the Grand Escunite and reel it in. PC Gamer specifically warns that using the Capture Net will not count for this quest, so fishing is the appropriate method.
- Return to Kanya. Report the catch to complete Razzle Dazzle.
How to identify the Grand Escunite
Look for a squidlike aquatic creature with a conspicuously large shell and tentacles trailing behind it. It can be swimming below the surface, so scan deeper water rather than relying only on what is immediately visible. The guides’ descriptions and images can help distinguish it from the other aquatic life in the pools.

If it is missing or will not bite
There is no verified fixed spawn timer, spawn probability or guaranteed number of resets. Guide-recommended refreshes are practical retries, not a promise that the creature will appear.
- Leave the Area 8 pool and return to refresh the area, then inspect both pools again.
- Alternatively, use a nearby Pop-Up Tent or rest option to repopulate aquatic life. PowerPyx also recommends fast-traveling to another map and returning, or resting to change conditions.
- If it is present but will not bite, PCGamesN reports that reloading the area helped. Re-equip the Tentacle Jig and try again after the refresh.
Why you should fish instead of using the Capture Net
General advice for catching endemic wildlife does not necessarily apply to a quest-specific catch. PlayStation’s starter guide explains the Capture Net for ordinary endemic wildlife, but it does not address Grand Escunite quest credit. A PowerPyx guide recommends the net, while PC Gamer explicitly says netting this creature will not count for Razzle Dazzle. To avoid having to find another one, use the fishing rod and Tentacle Jig.
