Heredis: Echoes of the Past is an Assassin’s Creed live stage show, not a new video game—and Ubisoft says you do not need to know the games to enjoy it. If you are deciding whether to play the series first, the short answer is that you can attend without doing so. If you want to try a game anyway, choose by historical setting, story continuity, and the kind of gameplay you prefer.

What is Assassin’s Creed Heredis?

Heredis: Echoes of the Past is an original live production created by 7 Fingers Troupe in association with Assassin’s Creed. Ubisoft describes it as a blend of acrobatics, parkour, theatre, and history. Its premise follows a young man travelling across history in search of his lost father. Ubisoft calls it “a new, wholly original live show with Assassin’s Creed” in its August 26, 2026 franchise article.

The announcement planned a world premiere at Théâtre Maisonneuve, Place des Arts, in Montreal on December 3, 2026, followed by performances at Casino de Paris starting January 21, 2027. These are announced plans, not a guarantee of current availability; consult Ubisoft’s official show and ticket information for updates.

Do you need to play the games before seeing Heredis?

No. Ubisoft says viewers do not need prior knowledge of the games to enjoy the show. The announcement presents Heredis as an original stage story, so it does not establish any particular game as required preparation. The games can offer context for the franchise’s historical-action setting and themes, but playing them first is optional.

What is the Assassin’s Creed series about?

Assassin’s Creed is a multi-game action-adventure franchise that moves among historical eras and protagonists, with an overarching story connecting events across time. Ubisoft’s official guide to playing the games in order describes more than 18 entries. Individual games vary in setting, story focus, and how they balance stealth, parkour, exploration, and combat. Ubisoft Montréal’s account of the series’ evolution also notes a shift from its action-adventure origins toward role-playing elements in later entries.

Where should a beginner start?

There is no single objectively best starting game established by Ubisoft’s guide. The original is the release-order start; a different entry may suit you better if its setting or gameplay sounds more appealing. Use these distinctions to decide:

Starting approach What it offers Good fit if you want…
Release order: Assassin’s Creed (2007) Altaïr’s story during the Third Crusade in 1191, alongside the modern-day framing around Desmond Miles. The game features climbing, parkour, and assassinations in Damascus, Acre, and Jerusalem. To begin where the series began and see its early action-adventure approach.
Continue the early narrative: Assassin’s Creed II (2009), then Brotherhood and Revelations Ezio Auditore da Firenze’s story begins in Renaissance Italy in Assassin’s Creed II and continues through the next two games. The sequel expands the conspiracy narrative and player abilities. A connected run of games centred on one protagonist.
Choose by historical setting The franchise includes the American Revolution, the Caribbean, the French Revolution, Victorian London, Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, Viking-era England, and ninth-century Baghdad, among other periods. A particular era or place, even if that means starting outside release order.
Choose by gameplay emphasis Entries share series elements such as stealth and parkour, while later games can put more emphasis on broad exploration and open-ended combat. Exploration and combat over the earlier games’ more focused approach, or vice versa.

These are ways to navigate the franchise, not a ranking. Ubisoft documents the games’ release sequence and differences, but does not name one universally best first game. If continuity matters most, follow release order; if you are mainly curious about a particular time period or play style, choose an entry that foregrounds it and treat any links to earlier stories as a reason to explore further.
