Ubisoft has scheduled its world premiere in Montreal for December 3, 2026, with Paris performances beginning January 21, 2027. If you want an Assassin’s Creed game in the meantime, choose by the part of the series you most want to play: Baghdad stealth, feudal-Japan action, or pirate exploration.
Which Assassin’s Creed game should you play?
| Game | Best fit | What you’ll play |
|---|---|---|
| Assassin’s Creed Mirage | Historical-city stealth and assassination | Basim’s story in ninth-century Baghdad, with a focus on the familiar assassin fantasy. |
| Assassin’s Creed Shadows | Feudal Japan and contrasting playstyles | Switch between Naoe’s shinobi stealth and Yasuke’s combat-focused samurai approach. |
| Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced | Pirate exploration and naval combat | Play as Edward Kenway in the Caribbean, with ship combat, sword fighting, and a pirate-to-Assassin story. |
These are different kinds of Assassin’s Creed experiences, rather than a single ranked list. Ubisoft has described Mirage as bridging RPG-style play and gameplay associated with earlier entries; choose it for a more focused city-and-assassin premise. For a broad world with two distinct character styles, consider Shadows. For sailing and piracy, choose Black Flag Resynced.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage: for Baghdad stealth
Mirage is the closest match if what you want is to stalk targets through a historical city and feel like an assassin. Ubisoft places Basim’s story in ninth-century Baghdad and lists the game for PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and Amazon Luna. Its positioning between RPG-style play and the earlier series gameplay makes it a useful pick if you want the classic stealth-and-assassination emphasis without choosing an older entry just for its era.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows: for feudal Japan and two approaches
Shadows is set in feudal Japan and builds its core contrast around Naoe and Yasuke. Naoe is a shinobi assassin who uses stealth, tools, parkour, and a hidden blade; Yasuke is a combat-focused samurai. That gives you a choice between slipping through a location and confronting enemies more directly. Ubisoft describes a world spanning towns, ports, shrines, and countryside. The game is available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC storefronts.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced: for ships and pirate adventure
Choose Black Flag Resynced if the appeal is exploration by sea rather than moving across rooftops. Ubisoft says the game released on July 9, 2026, returning players to the Caribbean as Edward Kenway. Its stated focus includes naval combat, sword fighting, and Kenway’s story from pirate to Assassin.
Want a broader franchise catch-up?
If you are not set on one particular style, Ubisoft’s official Assassin’s Creed chronology is a useful route into the series’ changing settings and gameplay. It covers the Third Crusade in the original game, the Italian Renaissance in Assassin’s Creed II, Revolutionary Paris in Unity, and Victorian London in Syndicate, as well as later eras and approaches. Use it to pick an entry by period or setting instead of assuming every game plays the same way.

Heredis is separate from Ubisoft’s upcoming game projects
Ubisoft’s 2026 franchise update identifies Codename HEXE and Codename INVICTUS as separate projects, not as games connected to Heredis. HEXE is described as an in-development, darker, narrative-driven Assassin’s Creed experience; Ubisoft says it will share more when ready. INVICTUS is described as a PvP multiplayer project. Neither changes the basic premise here: Heredis is the show to wait for, while the games above are playable alternatives in the franchise.
