The same announcement raised the Thor 16GB/1TB configuration from $449 to $549 and added a 16GB/512GB option for $469. Those are announcement-time prices, not current quotes.
What AYN changed in the April 2026 announcement
AYN’s stated reason for the storage switch, reported by Liliputing on April 17, 2026, was: “UFS 4.0 is no longer available at a sustainable level.” The change applied to upcoming batches of both the Thor and Odin 3; it does not establish that previously shipped units were altered. Liliputing’s announcement report cited AYN’s Discord statement.
This was a change in storage generation, not a blanket reduction in advertised storage capacity. The price increase highlighted in the report concerned the Thor’s 16GB RAM/1TB storage configuration. AYN also added a 16GB/512GB configuration. The Thor Lite’s starting price was reported as $249 at the time.
Thor configurations and April 2026 announcement prices
| Thor configuration | April 2026 reported price | What changed |
|---|---|---|
| 16GB RAM, 1TB storage | $549, up from $449 | $100 increase reported by Liliputing on April 17, 2026 |
| 16GB RAM, 512GB storage | $469 | New option reported by Liliputing on April 17, 2026 |
| Thor Lite | Starting at $249 | Starting price reported by Liliputing on April 17, 2026 |
These figures describe the announcement, not what a buyer should expect to pay now. Android Authority reported further Thor increases effective July 3, 2026: $10 for several models and $30 for the 1TB Max. What UFS 3.1 means for handheld gaming
UFS 4.0 is theoretically faster than UFS 3.1. That distinction may matter on paper, but it does not establish a specific slowdown in the Thor or Odin 3. Android Authority noted that slower storage could mean longer waits for tasks such as loading games, installing or updating software, and saving. Neither its report nor Liliputing’s included a controlled comparison of the affected AYN batches, so there is no demonstrated load-time penalty to quote.
Storage capacity and storage speed are separate specifications: 512GB versus 1TB describes how much data fits, while UFS 3.1 versus UFS 4.0 describes the storage standard. A 1TB model does not therefore inherently load games faster than a 512GB model. Liliputing also noted that both standards should be sufficient for many basic tasks.
