Star Wars: Galactic Racer is scheduled to launch on Xbox Series X|S on October 6, 2026. It is not out yet, so these are five reasons to look forward to it—not claims of personal play. The driving impressions below come from Xbox Wire editor Mike Nelson’s hands-on preview; other details reflect official game descriptions.
1. It brings Star Wars racing back to the forefront
Racing has a long history in Star Wars, from the podrace in The Phantom Menace to Star Wars: Episode I: Racer. Galactic Racer takes that legacy in a new direction: its Galactic League is an underground circuit in the lawless Outer Rim, set after the Empire’s fall. Lucasfilm Games vice president and general manager Douglas Reilly said Fuse Games pitched “a new expression of racing in a galaxy far, far away.” StarWars.com’s announcement and interview introduce the premise and its connection to the series’ racing past.
2. Runs-based racing gives risk a place in the pitch
The Xbox Store describes Galactic Racer as a runs-based racer in an underground circuit where fortunes can be won or lost quickly. Its stated principle is “The greater the risk, the greater the reward.” That promises a different emphasis from a straightforward sequence of races, while leaving the precise structure of a run to be discovered in the game itself. Microsoft’s Xbox Store listing is the source for that design description.
3. The vehicle classes have distinct handling trade-offs
In his June 2026 hands-on preview for Xbox Wire, Mike Nelson described three vehicles with noticeably different driving characteristics. These are qualitative impressions from his preview session, not measured performance claims.

| Vehicle | Preview impression | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Landspeeder | Weighty, with a feel suited to drifting | Its heft distinguishes it from the quicker, lighter-feeling alternatives. |
| Speeder bike | Quick in a straight line | Harder to control through corners. |
| Skim speeder | Can make hard-banking turns | More difficult to handle. |
The official site also lists podracers among the craft, though Nelson’s cited handling comparisons cover the other three. His account of the vehicles and preview session is in Xbox Wire’s hands-on preview.
4. It pairs a story campaign with competitive and arcade modes
Official descriptions present a story-driven campaign in which the player becomes Shade, a racer chasing revenge and glory, alongside strategic PvP grudge matches. Nelson’s preview included both campaign and arcade modes, giving a glimpse of play beyond the competitive pitch. The Xbox Store lists single-player and online multiplayer for 2–12 players, including Xbox cross-platform multiplayer. On console, online multiplayer requires Xbox Game Pass Essential, Premium, or Ultimate, sold separately; the listing does not make that subscription a requirement for single-player.

5. The racing is physical, customizable, and rooted in varied Star Wars settings
The game’s official descriptions emphasize craft customization and contact-heavy racing, including slamming, shunting, and takedowns. The setting is not limited to a single famous stretch of track: the official site names Jakku, Tatooine, Ando Prime, Lantaana, Sentinel I, and Derven Acos. StarWars.com specifically describes Jakku as an unsanctioned racetrack. The listed worlds suggest a broad tour through this corner of the galaxy, but do not establish that every planet has a unique track.

The Xbox Store lists the Xbox Series X|S release for October 6, 2026, with Secret Mode as publisher and Fuse Games as developer. The official game site says physical Standard and Deluxe editions are available for Xbox Series X|S and PS5. Digital Deluxe adds three vehicles, three arcade events, livery and player-banner content, and a digital art book; the official announcement says its extra content will also be sold as a Deluxe Upgrade DLC at launch.
The Collector’s Edition includes the Deluxe digital content, a crafted metal model of the Kor Sarun: Darc X landspeeder, Kestar’s banner, pilot patches, a printed 80-page art book, and a steel case. Edition contents are detailed on the official Star Wars: Galactic Racer site.
At the time the US Xbox Store listing was accessed in 2026, it showed Standard at $59.99 or more and Deluxe at $79.99 or more.
