Can you still start The Taken Path?
No. Bungie’s current Destiny Content Vault page lists The Taken Path as no longer available to complete and says quests in progress will be removed from players’ inventories. Bungie also says weapons tied to vaulted quests may be obtainable by other means, but the page does not specify Barrow-Dyad’s alternate acquisition route. It would be misleading to direct players to a kiosk, activity, vendor or mission rotation without a current official confirmation.

The route below is therefore a historical guide to the original quest, as documented shortly after Destiny 2: Episode: Heresy launched. Its locations and activity access may have changed since then.
What was the original Barrow-Dyad quest route?
Barrow-Dyad was obtained through The Taken Path, which led to the Derealize Exotic mission. The original quest required players to locate Taken Blights, gather Taken Osseous Fragments, complete curse objectives and activate Hive statues before launching the mission.

1. Find a Taken Blight in The Nether
Search The Nether activity for a large Taken Blight. Follow hidden platforms to reach its plate; the original walkthrough notes that Ghost could reveal the platforms briefly.
2. Follow the Blight clues in Lost Sectors
The launch-era walkthrough directed players to K1 Revelation in Sorrow’s Harbor and Veles Labyrinth in the Forgotten Shore. In each location, another Blight and plate sequence led toward Taken Osseous Fragments. These are historical directions, not confirmation that the same access or steps remain available now.
3. Complete the three curse objectives
At the Shaping Slab, the original quest offered Curse of Endurance, Curse of Urgency and Curse of Revenge. The walkthrough placed them at Altars of Sorrow, Hallowed Grove and Nightmare Hunt: Pride, respectively. Players killed enemies to extend a Taken Relic timer, then dunked the relic when the area allowed it.
4. Activate Hive statues in The Nether
The original steps also sent players to Hive statues in The Nether. Activating a statue spawned a mini-boss; defeating it yielded another Taken Osseous Fragment.

After completing the required quest steps, players could launch Derealize. The mission included combat, repeated curse mechanics, symbol and Blight searches, and platforming before its boss encounter. At the time, completing the mission guaranteed Barrow-Dyad.
What does Barrow-Dyad do?
Bungie identifies Barrow-Dyad as an Exotic Strand submachine gun. In its February 13, 2025 announcement, Bungie described its loop: hitting more than three different targets builds Blight; while the weapon is not firing, Blight depletes as the magazine refills; reloading converts stored Blight into tracking seekers that bore through targets. The details here describe Bungie’s launch-era weapon explanation, not a claim about current balance.

What about the catalyst or upgrades?
Older launch-era guides discussed a time-gated follow-up quest for catalyst details. Those instructions describe the game state at launch and should not be treated as current directions: the base quest itself is vaulted, and the current Bungie Vault page does not establish how Barrow-Dyad or any associated upgrades are acquired today.

Bungie also announced a physical Barrow-Dyad replica through Bungie Rewards, with a May 6, 2025 claim deadline. That was a time-limited offer, not an active purchase or claim option established by the available information. Bungie’s March 20, 2025 article quoted Exotic designer Alexander Cocoles describing the design premise: “It started with the premise of ‘a weapon that adapts to your choices’ and after much collaborative effort resulted in the culmination of activities and interactions you see now.”
