There is no single best DMZ settings preset for every player. Your screen, platform, hardware, and controller preferences all affect what works. Start with a stable baseline, tune visibility, frame-rate consistency, and controller aim separately, and confirm that each option is present in the version you play. The most directly relevant published guide is from 2022, so treat its recommendations as historical starting points rather than a verified preset for current DMZ menus.
Start with a baseline, not a copied preset
DMZ settings advice often combines choices that solve different problems. Brightness and visual effects affect what you can see; graphics and display options affect local performance; controller settings affect how aiming and movement feel. Network problems are a separate issue. Changing several categories at once makes it difficult to tell which change helped.
- Record your setup: note your platform, display resolution and refresh rate, current frame-rate behavior, and controller layout.
- Pick a repeatable test: use a familiar area or situation where you can judge image clarity, movement smoothness, and aim comfort.
- Change one relevant setting at a time: compare it with your starting point while leaving other variables unchanged.
- Keep or undo the change: retain it only if it improves the result you care about without creating a new problem.
- Recheck after major changes: patches, driver updates, or a platform change can affect how a previous setup feels.
A 2026 general Warzone settings guide recommends testing performance, visibility, and controls separately, but it is not a DMZ-specific compatibility test. GameSpot’s DMZ-inclusive guide, published November 18, 2022, also describes its recommendations as subjective. Neither establishes a universal current preset.
Improve visibility on your actual display
Inspect brightness, film grain, motion blur, and color filters if they are available in your game’s menus. The right brightness is the one that lets you read dark and bright areas clearly on your display; copying a number from a different screen can make the picture worse. Try optional visual effects with them enabled and disabled in the same situation, then judge whether they obscure movement or detail.

Colorblind filters are accessibility options that may help some players distinguish colors. They are not a guaranteed visibility upgrade for everyone. Activision’s explanations of brightness, film grain, motion blur, and color filters come from an older Modern Warfare controls article, not confirmation that every option or label remains in current DMZ builds. Check your own menus and display.
Tune controller aim and movement separately
Aim assist and response curves affect different parts of aiming. Activision’s older controls guide describes aim-assist modes as changing assistance such as target slowdown, while response curves change how stick input maps to aim movement. It describes Standard, Precision, and Focusing aim assist, and Standard, Linear, and Dynamic response curves. These descriptions explain the options; they do not prove one choice is best for all players or confirm the current labels in DMZ.

Begin with the default or familiar option, test one alternative at a time, and keep the setting that produces the most comfortable, repeatable control. Avoid changing aim assist, response curve, sensitivity, and other controls together: that makes it harder to identify what caused a difference. Do not treat a sensitivity number from another player as a measured improvement for your setup.
Consider layout and vibration
GameSpot’s November 2022 guide suggests turning controller vibration off and notes that a Tactical layout can suit a standard controller by moving crouch, slide, and dive to a thumbstick. Those are options to try, not measured guarantees. A layout change is useful only if the movement access feels more natural without disrupting your other inputs. Test it before settling on it.

Separate frame-rate problems from connection problems
If the picture stutters or feels uneven, investigate local performance and display behavior first. If you instead experience lag, disconnections, or trouble joining a match, check the service and network path: changing visual effects or aim settings will not fix a connection fault. Activision’s current Warzone support hub lists recent Warzone support and updates, but does not establish which DMZ-specific menus are available today.
- For frame-rate consistency: compare the same situation before and after a single graphics or display change, if the option exists on your platform. Do not assume a particular setting will raise frame rate without testing it on your hardware.
- For possible service issues: check Activision’s Warzone online connection troubleshooting guidance and current service status.
- For console network stability: Activision recommends wired Ethernet for online play and provides connection tests in its troubleshooting guidance. This addresses the connection, not visual performance or aim.
Activision’s router troubleshooting article treats a router DMZ as a later, temporary console-only test after UPnP and port forwarding. It instructs players to remove the console’s static IP from the router DMZ after testing. That router feature is unrelated to Call of Duty: DMZ’s in-game settings; do not use it as a visual or aim adjustment.

Why old DMZ settings guides need checking
The most directly relevant guide identified is GameSpot’s MWII and Warzone 2.0 settings guide, published November 18, 2022, which explicitly includes DMZ. Its recommendations are useful as starting ideas, not confirmation of present-day menu names, availability, or ideal values.
Activision’s Warzone support hub contains newer Warzone support material, including 2026 content, but does not verify current DMZ-specific settings or resolve whether and how DMZ is currently playable. The Activision controls and settings article is older and covers Modern Warfare on PS4. Confirm options in the build and platform you actually use.
