In the original Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 DMZ, solo survival comes down to taking a flexible loadout, choosing objectives that fit your route, avoiding needless fights, and planning an exit before your backpack is full of items you cannot afford to lose. Solo death costs you your backpack contents, and a standard exfil call reveals your position to other squads while drawing AI combatants.
These mechanics describe the original DMZ covered by Activision’s November 14, 2022 tactical overview. They are not a complete guide to the separate Modern Warfare 4 DMZ announced in 2026; Xbox Wire reported that release was planned for October 23, 2026, a future date as of this article’s October 2026 date, and its preview does not establish the new mode’s detailed rules.

What makes solo DMZ different?
DMZ is an extraction mode: you enter a match, complete objectives or gather equipment, then try to leave with what you have collected. Activision describes it as a single-life mode. In solo play, going down means there is no squadmate to revive you, and you lose the nonpermanent contents of your backpack. That makes survival and a planned exit more important than chasing every objective or fight.
Use a simple risk check before committing: what could this objective add to your run, how much exposure will it create, and can you reach an extraction route afterward? Contracts are optional, and the available overview describes what they ask you to do but does not establish universal completion times, payouts, or difficulty rankings.

Choose a flexible loadout, not a supposedly best build
The original-mode overview documents a loadout with two weapons, two pieces of equipment, a Field Upgrade, a Killstreak, armor plates, and a gas mask. The backpack can hold additional equipment, ammunition, valuables, and weapons. Treat the loadout as a way to cover likely situations rather than a fixed recipe: the official example is to carry a close-range weapon, then switch it for a long-range rifle before crossing open terrain.
- Cover distance changes: Keep a weapon suited to close quarters, but adapt before moving into terrain where longer sightlines matter.
- Expect found weapons to vary: Contraband weapons could have zero to five attachments, so a weapon picked up in the match may not behave like a consistent preset.
- Protect the run: Carrying more optional loot increases what is at stake if you are downed. Decide whether another detour is worth the added exposure.
The documented mechanics do not support a current “best solo loadout,” weapon ranking, attachment recommendation, or equipment-unlock path. Those can change with mode version and balance updates.

Pick contracts by the kind of risk they create
Contracts are optional in-match objectives. In the original DMZ overview, they included these tasks:
| Contract | What you do | Solo consideration |
|---|---|---|
| Secure Intel / Geiger Search | Find hard-drive intel and upload it at a radio tower, or collect uranium rods using a Geiger Counter. | Plan for travel and an upload or collection point; avoid assuming the route is safe merely because the objective is not described as a player hunt. |
| Elimination | Kill or confirm the death of an AI target guarded by combatants. | Expect a direct engagement with AI defenders and consider whether your equipment suits the fight. |
| Hostage | Enter a locked building, rescue the hostage, and carry them to the nearest helicopter exfil. | Requires entering a building and carrying the hostage, but a successful rescue also permits extraction. |
| Cargo Delivery / Shipment | Locate a vehicle or boat carrying cargo and take it to the marked drop-off. | Involves locating and moving a vehicle or boat, so account for the route and exposure while delivering it. |
| Hunt | Pursue an enemy Operator team marked as high-value because of its activity in the match. | This is explicitly a PvP pursuit; choose it only if seeking another team fits your run’s risk. |
| Destroy Supplies | Locate two supply sites and destroy them with planted bombs. | Requires reaching two objectives, so factor the travel and time spent exposed into your decision. |
Season 03 documentation later described Supply Run as a lower-stakes way for a brand-new Active Duty Operator to gear up by finding wooden crates. It is a dated seasonal addition, not confirmation that the contract is available in every version or current playlist.

Plan your exfil before you need it
In the original overview, you could call an extraction helicopter at marked locations. Calling one exposed the location on the Tac Map to other squads and drew AI combatants. The ordinary exfil sites were finite; after they were used, a final exfil site appeared. Players left behind became MIA.
- Choose an exit early. Before taking a long detour for a contract or loot, consider how you will get back to an extraction point.
- Approach with cover. Since a standard call alerts other squads and attracts AI, avoid treating the marked point as a safe waiting area.
- Keep the final approach purposeful. Once you trigger the helicopter, avoid lingering over optional loot; watch for incoming AI and other squads and be ready to move from exposed ground.
- Treat final exfil as a deadline. It appears after ordinary exfils are used, and missing it means being left MIA, so do not make it the routine plan for a run.
Hostage Rescue as an extraction route
A Hostage contract can also provide a way out. The player enters a locked building, rescues the hostage, and carries them to the nearest helicopter exfil; successful delivery permits extraction. This is a distinct route to consider when its building-entry and carry objectives fit your situation, not a guarantee that the route will be uncontested.

Later seasonal extraction options
Call of Duty’s Season 03 overview described two later additions to the original DMZ: a Heavy Chopper that required special fuel and could exfil by flying beyond map boundaries, and a purchasable Private Exfil at an unused point. These are historical seasonal mechanics; confirm their availability in the particular version or playlist before relying on them.
How the announced Modern Warfare 4 DMZ fits in
Xbox Wire’s June 7, 2026 interview reported a separate DMZ for Modern Warfare 4 and described solo deployment and a broad extraction-shooter direction. Joe Cecot, Studio Multiplayer Creative Director, characterized it this way: “We like to think of DMZ as an action extraction shooter.” That statement describes the announced release; it does not confirm that the original mode’s inventory, contracts, loadouts, or exfil rules carry over. Xbox Wire reported an October 23, 2026 planned release date, so detailed new-mode tactics should not be inferred from that preview.
