Choose Forza Horizon 5 for open-world driving and breadth
FH5 is the straightforward pick if the appeal is deciding where to drive, what to drive, and which activity to try next. Its Mexico setting, hundreds of cars, cooperative and competitive modes, player-made EventLab creations, accessibility options, and Hot Wheels and Rally Adventure expansions make it the more established all-round driving game. Those features and its count of more than 40 content updates are described on the current Forza Horizon 5 page.
That breadth is not the same thing as a guarantee that every player will prefer its structure. If you want a focused racing campaign rather than a large world full of activities, the announced design of Galactic Racer may better match your taste once it launches.
Is Forza Horizon 5 still worth playing?
If you want an open-world racer with a mature range of modes and accumulated updates, FH5 remains the better-supported choice on the facts available here. The official page describes a large, varied world and a substantial car collection; it does not state a precise total car count, so “hundreds” is the supported level of detail.

Wait for Galactic Racer if its focused Star Wars premise is the draw
Galactic Racer is an upcoming game for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC, scheduled worldwide for October 6, 2026. The official Xbox description frames it as a runs-based racing game starring Shade, with a solo, story-driven campaign and strategic PvP grudge matches. That makes it a different proposition from FH5’s open-world festival format, not simply another game with a different car roster.
Xbox Wire’s June 23, 2026 preview describes a challenging roguelite take on podracing and discusses campaign and arcade modes. It reports that the Galactic League has three exclusive Arcade trials. This is preview coverage, not confirmation of the final game’s full content, quality or long-term variety.

Should you wait for Star Wars: Galactic Racer?
Wait if a Star Wars racing setting, repeated runs, campaign progression and PvP sound more compelling than free-form open-world driving—and you are comfortable deciding before the game has launched. On October 4, 2026, release is two days away, but the game is not yet available to play. Its final content and reception are not established by the announced features or a preview.

- Play Forza Horizon 5 for open-world exploration, a broad range of cars and activities, and a content library that is already established.
- Wait for Star Wars: Galactic Racer if you value its announced Star Wars setting, campaign-led runs, arcade trials and competitive PvP more than an expansive driving sandbox.
- Don’t treat them as interchangeable. Their central difference is structure: FH5 is a broad open-world driving game; Galactic Racer is a focused racing experience whose final form remains unproven before launch.
