Switchroot’s community Android releases now cover Android 14 and 15; readers considering an installation should follow the current model-specific guide and verify the game-streaming app and controls on their exact setup.
What the GeForce NOW claim means
The headline refers to a community Android port, not a Nintendo feature. In 2021, TechSpot reported that GeForce NOW was among the possible uses of Android 10 on Switch hardware. That account is useful historical context, but it does not establish compatibility with today’s Android releases, every Switch SKU, or the current GeForce NOW app. TechSpot’s 2021 report
Switchroot’s current Android documentation describes the operating-system releases and supported hardware; it does not confirm GeForce NOW compatibility for each build. Treat the service as a reported use case, not a promised feature. Whether it works depends on the specific console, Android release, app version, and control setup.
Which Switch Android versions are current?
Switchroot documents Android 14 based on LineageOS 21 and Android 15 based on LineageOS 22.2. Its supported device targets include v1 (odin), v2 (modin), Lite (vali), and OLED (fric). The LineageOS Wiki’s device page is specifically for “Nintendo Switch v1 [Android TV]” (codename nx). It says an unlocked bootloader is required and warns that Nintendo offers no official bootloader-unlocking method. That v1 page should not be taken as the installation guide for every Switch model; use documentation for the exact target device. LineageOS Nintendo Switch v1 device page
Why Android 10 guides are not the default
Switchroot labels its Android 10 release deprecated. It is a downstream LineageOS 17.1 build, and its setup guide limits Android 10/Q to unpatched v1 Switches or ipatched v1 units with a hardmod. Switchroot also warns that Hekate v6.5.0 removes coreboot launching support for this legacy route. Do not assume an older Android 10 tutorial applies to current releases or hardware. What installing Android on a Switch involves
Installation is a community modification that uses microSD storage, rather than a normal Switch system update. The LineageOS v1 installation guide includes preparing SD card partitions and recommends allocating roughly 10 GB or more to Android. The amount of space you choose affects how much remains available for other uses on that card. LineageOS v1 installation guide
If the card has a previous Switchroot or unofficial installation, the guide warns there is no upgrade path: the SD card must be repartitioned. Back up anything you need before changing its partitions, and follow the instructions for the particular model and release rather than mixing steps from different guides.

How to assess GeForce NOW on your setup
Before relying on the Switch as a streaming device, check the GeForce NOW app’s current requirements and test the exact build you plan to use. In particular, confirm that the app installs and launches, that sign-in and streaming work, and that your intended controller is recognized and usable in the app and games. The cited project documentation does not certify those details across Android versions or Switch models.

- Identify your Switch model and use its matching Switchroot documentation.
- Choose a documented current Android release rather than assuming the deprecated Android 10 instructions are suitable.
- Check app and controller behavior on that precise configuration before depending on it for play.
