There is no universal number of coins to spend on Squad Building Challenges (SBCs). Set a budget around the live challenge’s requirements and reward, the players you already own, current market prices, and the coins you need to keep for your main squad. The practical rule is to price only the missing items, decide your maximum spend before buying, and stop if the total commitment is not worthwhile to you.
Start with the coins your squad cannot afford to lose
Write down your current coin balance and the amount you need available for a planned squad upgrade or other priority. The difference is the most you could consider spending on an SBC—not a target you need to spend. Choose a smaller cap if you want room to react to a market change or a new challenge.

Do not treat a fixed reserve percentage as an EA rule. Your reserve depends on your squad plans, how you earn coins, and how often you are willing to buy players for challenges.
Check the exact SBC before pricing it
Open the live challenge in the game and note its requirements, reward, expiration, and whether it is repeatable or part of a multi-challenge group. Requirements can include squad rating, chemistry, player quality, league, nation, or club. A group may have a final reward beyond the individual challenge rewards, so assess the full set if you intend to complete it. EA’s SBC guidance explains the submission process and requirements.

Edition matters. FC 26 uses traditional squad submissions. EA also describes FC 27 traditional Puzzle SBCs and Simplified SBCs, where eligible Player Items contribute Item Score. Do not apply FC 27’s Item Score rules to an FC 26 challenge. For a FC 27 Simplified SBC, check the remaining Item Score requirement before choosing items.
Use club items first, but count their opportunity cost
Search your Club and SBC Storage before shopping. EA specifically advises checking these inventories first. An item that is untradeable still has value to your club if it could help with a future challenge or a squad objective, so avoid treating every owned item as free.
Mark only players you are genuinely willing to surrender, then build the cheapest suitable combination from those items. EA recommends trying different combinations and comparing what you exchange with the reward. If an item might be useful elsewhere, include that trade-off in your decision even though it does not require coins today.

Price only the shortfall and set a hard cap
Use current Transfer Market listings for the players you still need; prices vary by platform and can move over time. Keep two separate totals so the real commitment is clear:
- Owned items: the players you plan to submit and their opportunity cost to your club.
- Additional coin spend: the price of the items you still need to buy.
For example, suppose a hypothetical FC 27 challenge calls for an 85-rated squad, and you can assemble most of it from players you are willing to submit. If the remaining eligible players are listed for a combined 18,000 coins on your platform when you check, your additional spend is 18,000 coins—not the cost of buying the whole squad. That figure is illustrative, not a live quote: check your own market and platform before buying.
Set the maximum you will pay before purchasing. If listings rise above that limit, wait or skip the challenge rather than letting a changing price turn a planned spend into an open-ended one. Recalculate if the requirements or market change, especially near expiration.

Decide whether the reward is worth the total commitment
Compare the reward with both the coins you would spend and the items you would give up. A reward that suits your club may be worthwhile even when it is not a direct coin return; a reward you do not need may not justify a high purchase cost. Packs and player items do not have a guaranteed coin value, so do not budget as if a particular pull is certain. Where applicable, consult the in-game probability display: EA says pack probabilities can change as live content is added and are intended to help inform decisions about coins, FC Points, and time.
When comparing multiple SBCs, weigh the following rather than reducing every reward to one universal coin figure:

- How useful the reward is to your particular club.
- Time remaining, repeatability, and any group-completion reward.
- Whether the players you need are unusually expensive on your platform.
- For FC 27 Simplified SBCs, how each eligible item’s Item Score compares with the remaining requirement.
Review the squad before submitting
Check every selected player and the total once more before you submit. EA warns that submitted items are permanently removed from your Club and cannot be restored. In FC 27 Simplified SBCs, submitted items remain gone even if you save progress and have not yet completed the challenge. Avoid submitting a more valuable player than needed to cover a remaining Item Score requirement.

If you have already made partial submissions and the remaining cost no longer fits your cap, do not spend more merely to justify coins or items already committed. Those are sunk costs; decide whether the unfinished challenge is still worth its remaining price.
Rebuild the budget from play and rewards
Coin income depends on the mode and the current title’s rules. EA’s FC 27 launch update says match rewards are increasing compared with FC 26, where EA gives roughly 500–600 FUT Coins as a typical match comparison point. That is not a guaranteed FC 27 payout or a promise for every FC 26 match. EA also says FC 27 will make a significantly higher proportion of rewards across Objectives, game modes, and other FUT areas tradeable.
Squad Battles provides match coins and weekly Battle Points and rewards; Battle Points depend on results and selected difficulty. Choose a mode and reward path that fit the time you want to play, then check live in-game information rather than relying on old payout assumptions.
