The optional Scadutree Avatar is beneath Shadow Keep in northern Scadu Altus. To reach it, drain the flooded Church District, then take an elevator from the church with the Marika statue. In the fight, focus on the Avatar’s head, bring Fire or Magic damage if available, and watch for Bleed-producing thorns and the phase-three Holy explosion.
Where to find the Scadutree Avatar
The Scadutree Avatar is below Shadow Keep, in northern Scadu Altus. Reach the Church District by crossing the bridges east of Bonny Village and following the road north toward Shadow Keep.

Route through the Church District
- From the Church District entrance Site of Grace, cross the flooded buildings using rooftops and rafters until you reach the ladder and water-drain mechanism.
- Activate the mechanism to drain the district, then descend to ground level.
- Find the Sunken Chapel Site of Grace in the southern structure.
- Enter the large church containing a statue of Marika and turn right to reach the elevator. Take it down to the boss.
How to prepare
Choose damage and defense with the fight in mind
Fire and Magic are effective damage types against the Avatar. Its head is its weak point and takes significantly more damage than other parts, so use attacks that can reach it reliably. Casters can target the head directly. If melee range makes that difficult, the Windows Central guide recommends ranged Ashes of War such as Ice Spear, Spectral Lance, or Beast Roar; these are suggested options, not a guarantee that a particular build will perform best.
The Avatar’s attacks are mainly Physical, with some Holy damage. Thorn attacks also build Bleed. Consider Physical and Holy damage resistance and Robustness, and carry Stanching Boluses to reduce existing Bleed buildup.

Consider Shadow Realm upgrades if you are stuck
Scadutree Fragments raise the Shadow Realm Blessing, which increases damage dealt and negated in the expansion’s areas. Revered Spirit Ash raises a separate blessing that strengthens summoned spirits and the spectral steed. Bandai Namco Europe recommends exploring for these upgrades when a fight is difficult. Its guide describes the Shadow Realm Blessing this way: “The ‘Shadow Realm Blessing’ increases a character’s abilities to deal and negate damage.”
How to handle the Avatar’s attacks
Stay alert for the timing and direction of each move; several attacks are safest to evade toward the boss, which also helps you get back within reach of the head.
- Opening thorn lines: Roll forward through them rather than retreating.
- Arm attacks: Generally roll toward the Avatar so you can close the distance to its head. Rolling backward can leave you exposed to head jabs.
- Double sweep: Dodge through both rotations, then punish the head.
- Four-hit slam sequence: Dodge forward through the first three impacts, then delay your dodge for the last slam.
- Deceptive right-arm swing: Do not attack immediately after the swing; wait for its follow-up smash.
- Ground thorns: Roll forward as the thorns erupt. The nearer thorns appear first.
- Holy projectiles: If the ground-thorn attack is followed by projectiles, dodge horizontally as they approach.
- Glowing-head grab: Evade sideways or backward. The lowered head afterward is an opportunity to punish.
Phase changes and openings
The fight has three health bars. At the end of each of the first two, the Avatar falls and exposes a critical-hit opening. Landing the critical removes about a quarter of the next phase’s health, according to the Windows Central guide.
Phase two: account for added follow-ups
Watch for a triple charge and an added slam after the double sweep. Do not assume the earlier attack sequence ends at the same point once the second phase begins.
Phase three: wait out the Holy blast sequence
The final phase adds a large Holy explosion. Roll toward the Avatar as the blast happens; it drops afterward, creating a major damage opening. If light remains after the first explosion, two more quick blasts may follow. Wait until the sequence is over before committing to an attack.
Rewards
Defeating the Scadutree Avatar rewards the Remembrance of the Shadow Sunflower and Miquella’s Great Rune.
