Its power, speed, reach, attack pattern, equipped effects, and enchantments all shape how effective it feels. Start by comparing weapons for the encounters you face, then upgrade a suitable weapon at the Blacksmith, tune its buff, and review your full loadout’s effects.
Why does my weapon damage feel low?
A weapon can feel weak even when its level looks competitive because damage is only one part of how it performs. Mojang describes weapons in terms of power, speed, and range, and different weapon types handle attacks differently. A slow, hard-hitting weapon may feel less effective if enemies close in quickly; a faster weapon may suit that situation better even if each hit feels smaller.
Your equipped gear also contributes to the build. Weapons, armor, and talismans can provide effects, while enchantments add further options. Looking at the weapon alone can therefore miss the reason a loadout feels strong or weak.
There is also a visibility problem: players on the official Minecraft Feedback forum have requested that the game “re-add the ability to see stats like attack damage, speed and range” and “Show weapon damage and equipment armor.” Those requests show that players want clearer comparisons; they do not establish exactly what the live interface displays.

Compare weapons by how they attack
Before replacing a weapon, consider what its attacks do and whether that fits the fight. Mojang’s game overview highlights tradeoffs between weapon types: a Powerbow hits harder when charged, while shortbows fire faster; longbows emphasize range, and trickbows can ricochet. These are different jobs, not a universal ranking.
- Power versus speed: Consider whether you benefit more from heavier hits or a quicker attack cadence.
- Range: A weapon that lets you attack safely from farther away may work better in an encounter than one that requires close range.
- Charge or combo behavior: A weapon’s attack pattern affects how readily you can land its stronger attacks.
- Build fit: Account for the effects and enchantments on your other equipped gear, not only the weapon.
Mojang has not published a complete damage formula or a verified universal weapon ranking. Community reverse-engineering published in early October 2026 proposes that weapon type, item power, and effects all contribute, but its author says the exact item-power formula is not established. Treat those findings as provisional comparisons, not official damage values.

How to improve a weapon that suits your build
Upgrade it at the Blacksmith
Xbox Wire’s August 26, 2026 hands-on says the Blacksmith in Brave Haven can upgrade owned equipment to the highest power level currently available to the player. If a weapon’s handling and effects work for you, upgrading it may be an alternative to discarding it just because a higher-power drop appeared.
Reroll an unsuitable buff
The same Xbox Wire hands-on describes rerolling an equipment buff at the Blacksmith. Use this to tune gear toward your build, but do not expect a guaranteed or quantified damage increase: the official description does not state how much damage a particular reroll adds.

Apply and upgrade enchantments
Mojang’s August 31, 2026 gameplay-systems article says books collected during play go into a personal library. At the Enchantsmith, you can apply an enchantment from that library to a chosen gear slot and upgrade enchantments over time. Choose effects that address the bottleneck you notice—such as needing a better fit for your weapon or encounter—and refine the setup as you collect books.
Check what your whole loadout contributes
Xbox Wire describes an Effects and Enchantments menu that gathers effects from equipped weapons, armor, and talismans. Review it when a change in performance is hard to explain: it can help you identify which effects are active across the kit, rather than attributing the result to the weapon alone. Check the menu after changing equipment or enchantments so you can connect the change to what you actually equipped.

Use repeatable encounters to refine your gear
In a September 28, 2026 preview, Xbox Wire described repeatable encounters and dungeons as opportunities to earn gear and Enchantment Books. The preview also says Echo Shards can upgrade merchants, Blacksmiths, and equipment. Repeating content can therefore support continued gear and enchantment progression, although the preview does not provide current drop rates.

Official descriptions establish weapon tradeoffs, enchantment progression, Blacksmith upgrades and rerolls, and a combined effects view. They do not establish an exact damage formula, a precise damage figure for each weapon, or a definitive DPS ranking for the current game build. If you compare weapons, use observable performance and their power, speed, range, attack behavior, and effects rather than treating an unofficial table as an authoritative in-game stat sheet.
