Delisting alone is different from revoking an existing account entitlement: Steam’s guidance treats access losses such as revoked activation keys or refunded gifts as separate situations. If you already own the game or its DLC, check your Library and account records; continued downloads, compatibility, and online services are not guaranteed indefinitely.
Does a delisted game stay in your Steam Library?
Ordinarily, removal from sale changes the game’s Store availability, not the status of an existing purchase. Valve’s documentation discusses product removal separately from situations that can remove access, such as a publisher revoking a CD key or a gift being refunded after fraud or a payment dispute. A specific game’s licensing or account history can affect an individual case, so a missing Library entry is worth investigating rather than assuming the delisting removed it.

If a game you bought seems missing
- Make sure the Steam client is signed into the account that made the purchase.
- Check Library filters and the Hidden Games list; either can keep a title out of the view you are using.
- Review your purchase history to confirm the transaction and account.
- If a completed purchase still does not appear, sign out and back in, then contact Steam Support if needed.
A revoked key is a distinct case: Steam says a publisher may revoke an activation key, for example if it was time-limited or obtained fraudulently. A gift may also be removed if refunded because of fraud or a payment dispute. Those circumstances are not the ordinary consequence of a Store delisting.
Can you still play a Steam game after it leaves the Store?
Delisting does not, by itself, establish that an existing owner has lost access. But ownership should not be confused with a promise that the game will remain playable under all conditions. A title may depend on publisher-hosted servers, DRM checks, operating-system compatibility, or files that could become unavailable. Valve’s product-removal guidance specifically tells publishers to explain what customers should expect when a game relies on hosted servers that will no longer be available. Check the game’s own announcements and support information for its current status; general Steam guidance cannot determine the future of a particular title’s servers or technical requirements.

Can you download and install DLC you already own?
Valve describes owned DLC as integral to its game. To see which add-ons are registered to your account, open the game’s Library page and inspect its DLC section, or open Properties > DLC in the Steam client. The interface shows owned DLC and whether it is installed; the documented settings also allow DLC to be managed or manually installed.
- Open Library and select the game.
- Look for the DLC section on the game’s Library page, or open the game’s Properties.
- Select DLC to review registered add-ons and installation status, and manage installation where available.
This check is more reliable than whether an add-on remains visible in the Store: Store availability concerns sales, while the Library’s DLC view concerns what is registered to your account.

Can you buy DLC after the base game is delisted?
There is no universal rule established in Steam’s general guidance that unowned DLC remains purchasable after its base game is removed from sale. Availability depends on the particular game, DLC listing, and rights involved. Check the specific Store listing and your purchase history; do not assume that because you can still install an add-on you own, you can also buy one you do not own.
Does a delisting qualify you for a refund?
A game’s removal from sale does not automatically mean Steam will refund every previous purchase. Steam’s published standard policy, last updated April 23, 2024, generally allows a game refund on request within 14 days of purchase if it has been played for less than two hours. For DLC, the stated conditions are a request within 14 days, less than two hours of play in the underlying title since the DLC purchase, and DLC that has not been consumed, modified, or transferred. Store pages may identify exceptions, and Steam’s policy notes that consumers in some jurisdictions may have additional rights for faulty games. Check the policy and the particular purchase when making a request.

Separately, Valve’s Steamworks product-removal guidance says Valve may offer refunds when a developer cancels or retires a game. That is not described as an automatic refund entitlement for every delisting, so check any title-specific notice and the applicable policy.

- Store status: Is the game or add-on still offered for purchase?
- Account entitlement: Does the game appear in the correct account’s Library and purchase history?
- DLC status: Is the add-on registered to your account, and does the DLC section show it as installed?
- Playability: Does the game require publisher-hosted servers or other services that may no longer operate?
- Refund eligibility: Does the purchase meet Steam’s current policy, or does a title-specific notice or local consumer law apply?
