What training dummies are useful for
- Practicing a skill sequence: Use a target to rehearse an opener or rotation without treating the result as an encounter simulation.
- Observing damage in a stated setup: A dummy reading describes damage against that target with your current character, skills, and modifiers. - Comparing repeat attempts: Reuse the same dummy and keep other conditions as steady as practical. This makes a comparison more informative, though it does not create an official standardized test.
Some dummies can attack, but this is not universal
A third-party summary of the July 22, 2026 patch notes reports that some training dummies in towns and Legion bases were replaced with attack-skill dummies. It says those dummies use skills only while the player is near. The reported change is limited to some dummies in those locations; it does not show that every training dummy attacks. How to make a dummy damage comparison more useful
Before comparing two runs or players, record the conditions that can change the result. These are practical controls, not a published AION 2 testing standard.
- Target: Use the same dummy and note its location.
- Character: Keep level, gear, and relevant stats consistent, or state what changed.
- Skills and duration: Use the same skill sequence and test duration.
- Modifiers: Record buffs, debuffs, and other damage modifiers.
- Meter method: Note which meter you used and how it defines the target and damage window.
The open-source AION 2 DPS meter README advises hitting the same training dummy when comparing results. Its documentation says it calculates DPS from the monster that took the most total damage and counts each hit of a multi-hit skill individually. Those details matter: changing the target or comparing readings from different methods can make the figures hard to interpret. AION 2 DPS meter README

What a dummy cannot test by itself
A dummy test does not reproduce a boss encounter’s movement, attack patterns, positioning demands, target changes, or encounter-specific conditions. Community material reports dummy and boss measurements separately, reinforcing that these are different target contexts—not evidence that a dummy number predicts boss damage. For the same reason, a dummy reading alone cannot establish a universal class ranking. A fair comparison must account for the character build, skills, buffs, target, duration, and meter method; the sources available do not provide a complete official protocol for controlling all of them.

What is not established about dummy settings
The cited material does not establish the current health, defense, resistance, or reset behavior of each dummy type. Avoid assuming those settings are identical across dummies or treating an unqualified damage figure as a controlled benchmark.
