Buyers quoted a supplier-unavailable message, but Amazon did not provide a verified public explanation in the reports reviewed, and no confirmed count of affected orders is available. This was a reported February 2026 incident, not evidence of a current cancellation wave.
What happened to the preorders?
On February 11, 2026, GameWatcher reported customer posts describing canceled physical Deluxe and Steelbook Deluxe orders just over two weeks before launch. GamingBible published further customer accounts between February 11 and 13, including cancellations, delayed estimates, and changed orders. NJ.com reported on February 16–17 that some buyers were offered standard-edition alternatives and that some replacement Amazon Exclusive Edition orders had estimated delivery dates around March 16. These were buyer-specific reports and estimates, not a universal outcome.

One Reddit post quoted by GamingBible said Amazon had canceled the buyer’s Deluxe order because “there’s none left from the supplier.” That is a customer’s account of the message they received, not an official Amazon explanation. The reporting does not establish whether the underlying issue was an allocation shortage, too many preorders, a supplier problem, or something else. Nor does it verify how many orders were affected or establish that every country, platform, or edition was involved.
Why a replacement might not be equivalent
Capcom’s physical Steelbook Deluxe Edition included the Deluxe Edition contents plus a steelbook case and a limited-edition lenticular card. A standard edition would not include those collector items. Some customer accounts also described a poster bundled with an Amazon Exclusive Edition in place of the steelbook; a poster edition is not the same physical product as the Steelbook Deluxe Edition.

| Edition described in the reports | What Capcom or contemporaneous coverage establishes | Collector-item difference |
|---|---|---|
| Physical Deluxe Edition | Full game, five costumes, four weapon skins, two charms, two screen filters, a custom sound pack, and additional in-game files. Capcom’s announcement. | No steelbook or lenticular card is listed among the physical Deluxe contents. |
| Physical Steelbook Deluxe Edition | Deluxe Edition contents, plus a steelbook case and limited-edition lenticular card. Capcom’s announcement. | Includes both physical collector items. |
| Amazon Exclusive Edition | Contemporaneous reports described a poster and, for some buyers, estimated delivery around March 16, 2026. GameWatcher; GamingBible; NJ.com. | The reports describe a poster, not the Steelbook Deluxe edition’s steelbook and lenticular card. |
| Standard edition | NJ.com reported that standard-edition alternatives were being offered at Amazon and Walmart at the time. NJ.com. | Not the Deluxe or Steelbook Deluxe collector package. |
The Xbox storefront also lists a digital Deluxe bundle with a Deluxe Kit of downloadable content. It should not be confused with the physical Steelbook edition: a digital bundle does not supply the physical steelbook or lenticular card. Xbox Store.
What buyers could do if an order changed
The February coverage documented uncertainty rather than one fix that worked for every customer. If you were affected at the time, the useful distinction was whether Amazon had canceled the order, changed its delivery estimate, or substituted another edition. The order details and any cancellation or change notice were the place to confirm which applied to your account.
Rank #2
- Amazon Exclusive - 2 sided poster included in every game!
- Grace Ashcroft, an FBI intelligence analyst who is introverted and easily scared, representing a new type of character for the Resident Evil series. Grace will experience horror from the same perspective as the player as she learns to overcome her fears throughout the course of the story.
- For the first time ever in Resident Evil history, players will be able to freely switch between both first- and third-person perspectives throughout the game.
- An Anniversary to Remember: With March 2026 marking the Resident Evil series’ 30-year anniversary, Resident Evil Requiem marks its own milestone in the franchise.
- Pre-orders for Resident Evil Requiem are now open, with the bonus of Grace’s costume: Apocalypse. Please note that the picture weapon does not come with the costume, but it can be obtained in-game.
- If the order was canceled: compare any replacement offer with the edition you originally ordered, especially whether it includes the physical steelbook and lenticular card.
- If the order was delayed: treat the displayed date as an estimate, not a guarantee. Some reports described mid-March estimates, including around March 16.
- If considering another retailer: verify platform, physical versus digital format, exact edition name, seller, fulfillment, price, and delivery estimate before placing a new order.
Those reports and estimates are historical; they do not establish what any retailer has in stock now or what delivery date a current listing would offer. Capcom’s preorder announcement linked to retailer destinations, and contemporary reporting discussed Amazon and Walmart alternatives, but neither establishes present-day availability.
