Yes—in a short-lived report from Spain. On September 12, 2024, two days after Sony revealed PS5 Pro, Spanish outlet AS / MeriStation reported that the official PS5 Disc Drive accessory was sold out at PlayStation’s Spanish store, Amazon Spain and GAME. That report describes availability at three named Spanish retailers at that time; it does not establish a global shortage or current stock.
What happened after the PS5 Pro reveal?
Sony announced PS5 Pro on September 10, 2024, and said the console would not include a disc drive. Sony offered its existing Disc Drive as a separate purchase for players who wanted to use physical media with the new console. The announcement set PS5 Pro’s release date as November 7, 2024. On September 12, AS / MeriStation reported sellouts at PlayStation’s official Spanish store, Amazon Spain and GAME. This was a contemporary report about specific retailers in Spain—not a Sony-confirmed inventory count, and not evidence that every retailer or country had run out. Sony later confirmed PS5 Pro’s November 7, 2024 release. Neither that launch announcement nor Sony’s product listings establish whether the accessory is in stock today. Sony’s launch announcement

Can you add a disc drive to PS5 Pro?
Yes. Sony identifies the official, separately sold PS5 Disc Drive as compatible with PS5 Pro. It is the named accessory for the console; do not assume an arbitrary USB optical drive or third-party drive will work. Sony also lists compatibility with specified PS5 Digital Edition models. On Sony’s US listing, those digital model groups are CFI-2000 and CFI-2100. Check the model number on your console and the product listing for your region before buying, because compatibility details can be model- and region-specific. What the accessory lets you play
Sony says the drive supports PS5 games and supported PS4 titles on disc, as well as 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray movies, Blu-ray discs and DVDs. An internet connection is required to pair the drive with the console during setup. Sony’s US Disc Drive listing

The 2024 sellout report is historical. For a purchase now, check a retailer’s live product page rather than relying on that report or on a search result’s old stock status. Confirm that the listing is for Sony’s official PS5 Disc Drive, that it names your exact console model as compatible, and that the seller has it available for delivery or pickup. Sony’s US and UK product pages describe compatibility, but do not confirm stock across retailers.
