Spoiler warning: Third-party answer pages report the four Connections groups below for Monday, October 5, 2026. The puzzle date and #1212 label have not been confirmed by the New York Times, so treat these as advance reports until they can be checked in the game.

Hints for the reported October 5 Connections puzzle

Want a nudge before seeing the words? These are editorial hints based on the reported categories, not official NYT clues.

  • One group describes a calm state or manner.
  • One group consists of labels that can describe mature content.
  • Look for four different kinds of boards.
  • The final group involves words ending in ways to temporarily acquire something.

Reported Connections answers for October 5

Try Hard Guides and Yahoo Tech, carrying GameDaily content, report the same four categories and word sets. The answer pages are secondary sources; no official NYT result had confirmed them by October 4, 2026.

Reported category Words
Calm CONTENT, PEACEFUL, PLACID, SERENE
Adjectives for mature content EXPLICIT, GRAPHIC, STRONG, SUGGESTIVE
Kinds of boards ADVISORY, CHESS, IRONING, MESSAGE
Ending in ways to temporarily acquire PARENT, PLEASE, SAPPHIRE, SLOAN

The last category is reported as wordplay. The answer page does not explain each construction, so the category label should not be treated as independently verified beyond that report.

Is this puzzle officially #1212?

The number is unsettled. The October 5 answer pages use #1212, while Wordle.today associates #1212 with July 17, 2026. Until the NYT game confirms the date and number, it is safer to identify this puzzle by its reported date rather than present #1212 as official.

How Connections works

Connections asks players to sort 16 words into four groups of four, with each group linked by a shared connection, according to Yahoo Tech/GameDaily. That page also identifies Wyna Liu as the puzzle writer and crossword editor; this is secondary attribution.
