Seven notable co-op games were anticipated for 2025 in a forecast published December 31, 2024. That was a slate of expected releases, not a guarantee that every game launched that year: dates changed, and the forecast did not give Stage Fright a confirmed date. Here is what made each game stand out, what the dated announcements later clarified, and which details still need checking before you choose a game or invite your group.
What the 2025 co-op forecast included
Insider Gaming’s December 31, 2024 feature grouped these seven games as anticipated co-op releases for 2025. Its list spans squad shooters, survival action, a team-based take on the Elden Ring world, and cooperative adventures. The distinctions below reflect the forecast and the dated official announcements identified for this article; they are not a complete, current platform or multiplayer-mode guide.

Borderlands 4
The forecast pointed to the series’ squad-based action and Vault Hunters as the draw. It did not establish a final player limit or provide a verified breakdown of local and online play, so check the game’s current official information for those details before planning a group.
Killing Floor 3
This first-person shooter was presented as a larger-party horde-survival choice: players squad up against Zeds, with up to six friends described in the forecast. Confirm the final player limit, modes, and platform availability against current official information.

Little Nightmares III
Bandai Namco’s official styling is Little Nightmares III. The forecast described a solo option, switching between the two protagonists, as well as the option for a second person to join. Bandai Namco announced an October 10, 2025 release date for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. That announcement establishes the scheduled date and platforms; it is not, by itself, a confirmation of launch status.
Dying Light: The Beast
The forecast framed co-op as a way to get help surviving. On July 25, 2025, Techland announced that the release date had moved to September 19, 2025 to allow additional polishing. The developers said, “It has always been our goal to make Dying Light: The Beast the best Dying Light game we’ve ever released.” That is Techland’s stated ambition, not an independent assessment of the game.
Elden Ring Nightreign
The forecast distinguished Elden Ring Nightreign from the mainline Elden Ring experience by its three-player team format. Bandai Namco’s announcement specified squads of three or solo play. FromSoftware later announced a worldwide release date of May 30, 2025 and said packaged versions were for PS5 and PS4.
Stage Fright
Ghost Town Games announced a cooperative puzzle concept built around two distinct worlds. The December 2024 forecast did not give it a confirmed release date, and the sources identified here do not establish its release status or platform list as of October 4, 2026. Treat it as the slate’s unresolved entry rather than assuming it launched, was cancelled, or was delayed.

The forecast described Split Fiction as co-op-first and highlighted its Friend’s Pass system. A 2025 GamesRadar+ retrospective later listed PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Switch 2 and singled the game out as a standout co-op experience. “Standout” is that publication’s editorial judgment, not an objective award or test result.

How to choose a game for your group
Start with the kind of session your group wants, then check the exact player count and play modes for the platform and edition you intend to use. The forecast supports some useful distinctions, but it does not establish a complete like-for-like comparison across all seven games.
- For a larger squad: Killing Floor 3 was described as supporting up to six friends, but verify the final player limit and mode details.
- For a solo option or a two-person setup: Little Nightmares III was described with solo character switching or a second player joining. Elden Ring Nightreign was announced for squads of three or solo play.
- For co-op as the central premise: The forecast called Split Fiction co-op-first and noted its Friend’s Pass. Check the current official terms for how that system works before arranging a session.
- For action and survival: The forecast positioned Borderlands 4 around squad-based action and Vault Hunters, Killing Floor 3 around fighting waves of Zeds, and Dying Light: The Beast around survival helped by co-op.
- For a puzzle concept: Stage Fright was announced around cooperative play across two worlds, but its current release information remains unestablished here.
Local versus online play, precise party limits for several games, and complete platform coverage are not consistently established by these sources. Confirm those specifics before buying for a group, particularly if everyone needs to play on the same system or in the same mode.
What later context says about co-op games
GamesRadar+’s year-end 2025 retrospective included both Split Fiction and Monster Hunter Wilds among multiplayer games to play with friends. It described Monster Hunter Wilds hunts for up to four players and highlighted the shared-play experience in Split Fiction. This is one publication’s retrospective selection, not a definitive ranking of the year’s co-op games.
