Battlefield 6 has four classes: Assault, Engineer, Support, and Recon. Assault brings mobility and forward pressure; Engineer counters enemy vehicles and repairs allied equipment; Support sustains and protects teammates; Recon spots targets and supports the squad with ranged pressure. Choose by the job you want to do for your squad—not by assuming a class is limited to one tactic or weapon in every mode.
Battlefield 6 class roles at a glance
| Class | Main squad contribution | Signature weapon in Closed Weapon experiences | A good fit if you want to… |
|---|---|---|---|
| Assault | Mobility and forward pressure | Assault Rifle | Push objectives and help open space for your squad. |
| Engineer | Anti-vehicle pressure and allied repairs | SMG | Deter enemy vehicles or keep friendly equipment operating. |
| Support | Healing, supplies, revives and protection, plus sustained fire | LMG | Keep teammates fighting and hold useful positions. |
| Recon | Spotting, targeting and ranged pressure | Sniper Rifle | Locate opponents and give teammates useful information. |
EA’s class overview describes the roles; the weapon restrictions listed here apply to Closed Weapon experiences, not universally to every mode. EA’s Battlefield 6 class overview and its loadout guide provide the details.
What does each Battlefield 6 class do?
Assault: push forward and create openings
Assault is built around enhanced mobility and pushing through defenses. EA also highlights the option to carry an extra primary weapon. It suits players who want to fight ahead of the squad, pressure an objective, or help create a route through resistance. Its value is forward pressure, not simply having the most aggressive play style.
Engineer: threaten vehicles and repair allied equipment
Engineer is the clearest choice when enemy vehicles are shaping a fight. EA points to rockets and mines for attacking them, and identifies Engineers as the class that can repair friendly vehicles, equipment, and weapon placements. Pick it when your squad needs vehicle countermeasures or someone to keep its equipment working.

Support: sustain, protect, and resupply the squad
Support helps teammates stay in the fight with healing and resupply. EA also calls out supply crates, deployable cover, interception of enemy grenades and missiles, and LMG use. The class is useful for maintaining a position and helping nearby teammates recover or continue fighting.
Recon: find targets and help the team act on them
Recon contributes information and ranged options. EA describes spotting enemy positions, using drones and C4, and laser-designating targets to guide allied missiles. The role is not only about shooting from a distance: spotting and target designation can help teammates decide where to focus their effort.
How class loadouts and weapon rules work
EA’s loadout guide, dated July 21, 2026, describes a loadout as a combination of weapons, gadgets, a grenade, and a training path, with two gadget slots. Each class has a signature gadget and trait, as well as two training paths; the second path unlocks through a class assignment challenge. The guide says weapon restrictions apply in Closed Weapon experiences, where Assault uses Assault Rifles, Engineer SMGs, Support LMGs, and Recon Sniper Rifles. Do not treat those restrictions as a rule for every mode.

Season 5 changes EA announced
EA’s Season 5 outlook announced equipment changes and a rebalance of class training paths. Because these are update-sensitive details, use the current in-game loadout screen and live update notes to confirm what is available when you play.

- Assault: The announced path changes include a reduced movement-speed penalty when firing while moving, changes to passive healing, and changes to the High Explosive Launcher.
- Engineer: The outlook says guided function begins unlocked on the Aim-Guided Launcher. Announced path benefits include explosive resistance, faster armor replating, and vehicle immobilization from Aim-Guided Launcher hits.
- Support: Supply Bag and Smoke Launcher move to the loot pool, while Supply Pouches and Deployable Cover replace them. Announced path benefits include mounted weapon control, faster drag and revive behavior, and armor-related effects.
- Recon: The Drone moves to the loot pool and the Handheld Jammer takes its place. Announced path benefits include spotting effects and an interaction between the Handheld Jammer and redeploy devices.
These are changes EA announced for Season 5, not a guarantee that every listed item or mechanic remains unchanged after later patches. The Battlefield Team described the update this way: “Class Training Paths Have Been Rebalanced for Season 5, with new distinct tactical upgrades for each class.” That is EA’s description of the update, not an independent assessment of its balance.

What the Battlefield 6 beta class numbers do—and do not—show
Electronic Arts reported these deployment rates for the 2025 Battlefield 6 Open Beta in its August 21, 2025 debrief: Assault 32%, Support 26%, Engineer 23%, and Recon 19%. They describe class deployments during that beta period only. They are not current pick rates, evidence that one class is stronger, or a recommendation for what to play. Read EA’s Open Beta debrief.
