How Nintendo digital preorders work
Nintendo’s general eShop process applies to eligible games before release; it does not mean Pokémon Legends: Z-A can still be preordered. For an eligible upcoming game, Nintendo’s steps are:

- Find the game in the console’s Nintendo eShop or on Nintendo.com.
- Select “Proceed to pre-order” and follow the on-screen prompts.
- Nintendo charges the full purchase amount no sooner than seven days before the release date.
- After payment succeeds, a non-playable version preloads. A small update made available on release day enables play.
If payment fails, Nintendo says the preorder is canceled. See Nintendo’s eShop pre-order and pre-load FAQ for its general process.
Which version should you look for?
Nintendo UK lists the original Nintendo Switch game’s release date as 16 October 2025 and describes the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition as an upgraded version with improved resolution and frame rates. Check your regional store listing to confirm the edition and current availability.

- Venture into Hyperspace Lumiose in this additional story content that can be accessed after completing the main game
- Work with the mysterious baker, Ansha, to make donuts that awaken the Mythical Pokémon Hoopa’s power and grant you and your Pokémon a variety of useful effects
- Join Team MZ and the Mega Evolution Successor, Korrina, to investigate Hyperspace Lumiose, the otherworldly home to rare and hyper-strong Pokémon
- Discover new Mega Evolutions such as Mega Raichu X, Mega Raichu Y, Mega Chimecho and Mega Baxcalibur
- Claim Holo-X and Holo-Y in-game apparel items, which you can wear as soon as you are able to customize your character’s look and outfit in the main game
- Nintendo Switch: the original game for Switch.
- Nintendo Switch 2 Edition: the edition with improved resolution and frame rates, as described on Nintendo UK’s game listing.
- Switch 2 Edition Upgrade Pack: a separate digital product for Switch 2, not a preorder of the base game.
- Mega Dimension DLC: separate DLC listed for both Switch 2 and Switch; it is not the base game.
Nintendo Support’s DLC information distinguishes the Upgrade Pack and Mega Dimension DLC from the game itself. Check the live regional storefront for current purchase choices and prices.
Are the early-purchase bonuses still available?
The Pokémon Company’s bonus announcement described a digital-version code for 100 Poké Balls and an internet Mystery Gift Ralts for physical and digital buyers. The stated Ralts redemption period ended on 28 February 2026, so that offer is no longer current. The announcement does not establish that an old code remains redeemable now; do not assume either bonus is included with a current purchase. See The Pokémon Company’s bonus details.

Digital or physical: what to check before buying
For a digital purchase, use your regional Nintendo eShop listing. If considering a physical copy, check that the listing is for the intended Switch edition. In either format, confirm whether you are buying the base game, the Switch 2 Edition, an Upgrade Pack, or DLC; those are distinct products, and availability can vary by region.
