Then build a Pawn party that covers more than your own role, use commands with their context in mind, and pay attention to enemy weak points and the terrain.
Which starting vocation should you choose?
Your opening options are Fighter, Mage, Archer and Thief. Their play styles differ, so choose the kind of combat you want to learn rather than trying to identify one objectively best beginner vocation. Capcom’s manual also says additional vocations become available as the story progresses.

The role descriptions below are from PlayStation’s official Dragon’s Dogma 2 page. Capcom’s manual search result confirms that you can change vocations at a Vocation Guild, though its page could not be opened for verification. A vocation change is not evidence that every other progression consequence is reversible.

How should you build your Pawn party?
Pawns are AI companions who serve the Arisen and help in and out of combat. PlayStation describes a party with up to three Pawns: your own Pawn plus two additional Pawns hired through in-game options or online from other players. The official page also notes that a variety of Pawn vocations gives you different ways to play.
Use that variety as a guide, not a rigid recipe. Notice what your own vocation does not provide, then look for companions who add different capabilities. For example, if you choose a vocation focused on close combat, ranged attacks or magick support may broaden your options. The available official descriptions support complementing roles, but do not identify one universally ideal party lineup.

What do Pawn commands do?
Commands are contextual, so “Go!” does not mean exactly the same thing in every situation. Capcom’s English manual search result describes these uses:
- In combat: Pawns spread out.
- While exploring: Pawns head in the indicated direction and are prompted to interact with nearby treasure chests, mechanisms or gathering spots.
- After a Pawn makes a suggestion: Using “Go!” immediately afterward prompts that Pawn to follow through, including a proposed guide.
Pay attention to a Pawn’s suggestions and response rather than treating commands as interchangeable buttons. Capcom’s manual advises observing how a Pawn responds and acts in different situations to understand each command.

How should you approach combat and exploration?
Watch what enemies do, look for weaknesses, and consider your position and surroundings. PlayStation says enemies react to your tactics and that the environment can be used to your advantage. Its Cyclops example illustrates the idea: attack the eye from range as an Archer, or climb the creature to strike it directly.
That example is a reminder to assess a threat rather than repeat one tactic against every enemy. Check whether a weak point is reachable from your current position, whether your vocation is better suited to range or close combat, and whether your Pawns can contribute a different approach. This is a general way to apply the game’s stated emphasis on tactics and surroundings, not a guaranteed strategy for every encounter.
What should you know about the game and its current listing?
Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a single-player, narrative-driven action RPG. PlayStation’s US product page lists a PS5 release date of March 22, 2024. Its product page also shows edition names, but edition contents, availability and prices can vary by territory and change over time; check the store listing for your region before buying.
