NYT Connections for Wednesday, September 3, 2025, is game #815. Use the hints below to get progressively closer to the solution, or skip to the full groups when you’re ready. This is not the neighboring September 2 puzzle, game #814.
Start with a gentle nudge
- One group points to where many people get things under way.
- Another is about bringing things together.
- One group consists of brief labels associated with television in the 1980s.
- The last group can be completed by adding the same word after each tile.
One representative word per group
If you want a stronger hint, these words belong to the four groups: START, FUSE, ALF, and FLY.
Category names
The four categories are BEGINNING, JOIN, TV-RELATED ABBREVIATIONS IN THE ’80S, and MAY__.
Spoilers: all four groups and answers
The grid contains WED, NES, DAY, DAWN, FLOWER, BOND, GENESIS, ALF, MTV, FLY, FUSE, START, COMBINE, POLE, BIRTH, and VHS.

#1 Best Overall
- Yellow — BEGINNING: BIRTH, DAWN, GENESIS, START.
- Green — JOIN: BOND, COMBINE, FUSE, WED.
- Blue — TV-RELATED ABBREVIATIONS IN THE ’80S: ALF, MTV, NES, VHS.
- Purple — MAY__: DAY, FLOWER, FLY, POLE.
Why the grid can mislead
WED, NES, and DAY may stand out because of the Wednesday date, but they belong to different intended groups: WED is in JOIN, NES is in the blue group, and DAY completes MAY__. In Forbes, columnist Kris Holt recounts first trying GENESIS with NES, MTV, and VHS, then replacing GENESIS with ALF. That is one solver’s experience, not a rule for solving the puzzle.

Forbes and TechRadar describe Connections as playable through NYT Games on the web, with the Games app also cited by Forbes. Forbes reported in September 2025 that the archive required an All Access or Games subscription; access terms and platform details can change. Forbes’ September 3 puzzle coverage and TechRadar’s game #815 coverage independently confirm the date and solution.
