The Orange Pi Neo is a proposed Linux handheld gaming PC developed with Manjaro, but it is not a confirmed retail product you can buy now. Manjaro’s latest project update says the launch is paused because DDR5 memory and SSD prices are high; an earlier target of H2 2026 is therefore not a firm release date. The published specifications describe an AMD Ryzen 7 7840U model, a 7-inch 120 Hz display and Manjaro Gaming Edition, but remain subject to change before production. Manjaro’s project thread and its product page provide the current details.
What is the Orange Pi Neo?
The Neo is a planned handheld PC for playing PC games, rather than a conventional console with a fixed game library. Its pitch combines handheld controls with a Manjaro-based gaming system and a desktop mode. Manjaro’s product page currently describes the hardware and operating system, while the project thread documents development and launch status.
The distinction matters: announced specifications and development notes are not proof of final production hardware, completed retail software, or availability. As of Manjaro’s 2026 KW05 project update, the device is on ice while the team waits for a better launch window.
Why is the project paused?
In the official project thread, Manjaro project lead Philip Müller wrote in the 2026 KW05 update: “Due to high prices of DDR5 RAM and SSDs the project is currently on ice. Certifications for CE and FCC are now complete. Also a lot of improvements around the Manjaro Gaming Edition had happened. We are now waiting for a good time to launch the product …” The project thread is the source for this status. GamingOnLinux also reported the pause on 27 February 2026, citing the official update. Its report corroborates the announcement.

What hardware has Manjaro announced?
The following is the specification information currently published by Manjaro, not independently verified retail hardware. It may change before production. Manjaro’s product page lists the core specifications; controls and some other implementation details are also described in the project thread.

These figures indicate the intended shape of the device, not measured battery life, game frame rates, or sustained performance. The published material does not provide an authoritative benchmark comparison. In particular, the listed 16 GB and 32 GB memory configurations do not by themselves establish how the Neo will perform in games.
How is Manjaro positioning the software?
Manjaro describes Gaming Edition as an immutable, game-focused Manjaro system. The project thread describes Plasma 6, a Plasma desktop and a Gamescope-oriented gaming mode, with Flatpaks as a software focus. The named software stack includes Gamescope, OpenGamepadUI and InputPlumber.

The development log also discusses controller handling, gyroscope support, power controls, fan behavior, sleep and firmware updates. These notes show what the team has worked on; they do not establish that every feature is finished or behaves a particular way in a final retail build. The intended experience is to use the device as a handheld and switch to a desktop environment when needed, rather than to lock it into a console-only interface.
What prices were discussed, and can you buy one?
Philip Müller’s project thread listed historical base-price expectations in a 2025 update. They are not current offers or confirmed retail prices.

The second configuration uses a Ryzen 7 8840U, while the current product page’s headline specification lists a Ryzen 7 7840U. The prices come from earlier project planning, not a live checkout page; with the project paused, they should not be treated as a price commitment. Because there is no confirmed retail configuration or launch, comparisons based only on the announced sheet are provisional. Before deciding whether it suits your needs, look for final regional availability, warranty and return terms, shipping, confirmed price, and independent testing of performance, battery life and fan behavior.
