The short version: C.A.M.P. Pets are home-base animals; World Pets are designed to travel with you and fight as companions. As of October 4, 2026, World Pets are still in testing and planned for December 2026—not yet a confirmed live-game feature.
How C.A.M.P. Pets work
Bethesda’s original C.A.M.P. Pets notes describe cats and dogs placed using pet-spawning furniture. They stay around your C.A.M.P., where they can use designated furniture for idle activities. They do not follow you out into the world. Bethesda’s notes put it plainly: “C.A.M.P. Pets will not follow you in the world – they are just that – a C.A.M.P. pet!” Bethesda’s original C.A.M.P. Pets notes describe the earlier system; later updates could affect its current details.
The same notes say you can have one C.A.M.P. Pet at a time, while also having one ally at your C.A.M.P. That limit belongs to the original system; Bethesda’s World Pets testing notes do not establish a final limit for the planned feature.
What World Pets are meant to do
Bethesda describes World Pets as companions that can travel and fight alongside you. The planned feature lets players summon a Dog, Cat, Radhog, or Deathclaw through the Pip-Boy, then give commands using interactions or a command wheel. Its PTS description lists Attack, Stay, Follow, and Protect, alongside pinging, pet experience, leveling, and passive effects. Those mechanics are under test, so the commands, progression, balance, and interface described in the PTS notes may change before release. They should not be read as guarantees about the final live-game version.

When are World Pets coming to Fallout 76?
Bethesda’s September 2026 roadmap says World Pets are planned for December 2026. That is a planned window, not confirmation that the feature has launched. Check Bethesda’s September 2026 directors’ letter for the roadmap statement; until a newer official release notice confirms launch, treat World Pets as announced and in testing.

Will your current C.A.M.P. Pet become a World Pet?
Bethesda’s cited World Pets and roadmap descriptions do not say whether existing pet entitlements will convert, whether you will need another purchase or unlock, or precisely how existing pets will carry over. The PTS feature description establishes the intended traveling-companion role, but it does not settle those ownership rules. Do not assume your current C.A.M.P. Pet automatically becomes a World Pet—or that you must buy another one—based on these descriptions alone.
