Fallout 76 has two different kinds of pets players may mean by “C.A.M.P. pet”: a cat or dog placed at camp, and a wild animal tamed to guard it. The key safety rule applies to the second type: stay in the game until the tamed animal reaches your C.A.M.P. Bethesda says it disappears if you disconnect before then, and tamed animals cannot respawn.
First, identify which kind of pet you have
The troubleshooting differs because the live C.A.M.P. Pet feature and tamed guard animals are separate systems.

For the live placed-pet feature, Bethesda says a C.A.M.P. can have one pet and one ally, but only one pet at a time, and C.A.M.P. Pets are unavailable in Shelters. See Bethesda’s Gleaming Depths release notes for the feature description.
Keep a tamed animal safe on its way to camp
Stay connected until it arrives
After taming an eligible animal, do not exit the game or disconnect while it is walking to your C.A.M.P. Bethesda Support’s French-language Animal Friend Perk Card support page says: “Assurez-vous de ne pas vous déconnecter du jeu avant que l’animal atteigne le C.A.M.P., autrement il disparaitra.” In English: stay in the game until the animal reaches the C.A.M.P., or it will disappear.

Leave the module area clear as a precaution
A recent community taming guide reports that animals patrol close to the C.A.M.P. module and may be killed if the module or other objects load over them. This is a player-reported precaution, not an official guarantee or a confirmed fix. Leaving open space around the module is a low-cost measure if you are trying to reduce the chance of a newly arrived animal being obstructed. Fix common tamed-animal problems
The animal has not reached the C.A.M.P.
- Stay connected while it is making the trip. Disconnecting before arrival causes it to disappear, according to Bethesda Support.
- Do not rely on an estimated arrival time. Bethesda does not publish an average journey duration, and travel time can depend on the animal’s route and pathing.
The animal seems to be missing after arrival
- Look around the C.A.M.P. module and nearby structures. Community players report that tamed animals patrol near the module and can be affected by objects loading over them; this has not been confirmed as an official mechanic.
- Consider whether the animal may have been killed. Bethesda says tamed animals cannot respawn, so there is no supported respawn procedure if one dies.
The animal dies on the way or at camp
Bethesda confirms that tamed animals cannot respawn. Community discussions describe animals facing danger en route and weaker animals being vulnerable to attacks, but Bethesda does not publish a survival model or a guaranteed safe species. Treat those reports as anecdotal; no official source gives a survival chance or death frequency.

What to know about World Pets and PTS issues
Bethesda’s September 30, 2026 Letter from the Directors says World Pets is planned for December 2026 and describes C.A.M.P. Pets becoming traveling companions that can level up and take commands. The September 28 World Pets PTS notes include test changes such as pet health bars and a wounded-pet HUD emote, as well as known issues: long-distance ping-to-move failures and inconsistent pet XP.
Those are test-server notes, so they should not be treated as confirmed bugs in the live game or as guidance for stationary C.A.M.P. Pets. If World Pets is available in your game, check the current live patch notes for its actual commands, fixes, and known issues; PTS behavior can change before release.
